The Birds are taking a closer look at a versatile corner.
It’s time to add another prospect to BGN’s Philadelphia Eagles’ pre-draft visits tracker leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft.
The Birds will be hosting USC defensive back Jaylin Smith at the NovaCare Complex on Wednesday, according to Jeff McLane.
Smith is the No. 212 prospect ranked by Pro Football Focus.
The 21-year-old played for the Trojans from 2021-2024. Making 32 starts in 43 games, Smith logged blink-182 tackles, 13 tackles for loss, five passes defensed, three interceptions, and two forced fumbles.
Smith played multiple positions in college. He most often lined up as a nickel cornerback in 2022 and 2023 before moving out wide in 2024. Smith also has some limited experience at safety.
The Eagles could view Smith as an Avonte Maddox replacement in terms of a depth slot corner who can also play on the back end if needed. He could be a name to watch on Day 3.
Scouting report via NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:
Three-year starter with measurables and ball production that could leave teams lukewarm on his NFL prospects. Smith plays with a narrow backpedal, glitchy transitions and sluggish closing burst from off-man coverage, but he is much clingier from press-man. He might not have the play strength, length or top-end speed to be reliable on an island outside, though. The 2024 tape was better and he does offer some inside/outside flexibility, but he might be fighting for a roster spot throughout his career.
