Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 4/8/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Ranking the NFL’s most productive rookie classes from 2024 – PFF
5. Philadelphia Eagles. Snaps Played: 4,577. PFF WAR: 1.20. The Eagles completely renovated their secondary with their first two picks in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean, each of whom generated 0.55 WAR or better. While the pair of rookie cornerbacks did the heavy lifting, don’t discount edge defender Jalyx Hunt, who turned in a 69.0 PFF overall grade on 343 defensive snaps. Hunt, Johnny Wilson and Jeremiah Trotter Jr. all secured a 75.3 PFF special teams grade or higher, too.

Eagles host 2 potential first-round prospects on pre-draft visits – BGN
T.J. Sanders is the No. 38 prospect ranked by Pro Football Focus. The 21-year-old spent four years at SC, playing in 39 total games and starting 16. He logged 18 tackles for loss and 9.5 sacks as a college athlete. Some notable mock drafts have listed Sanders as an option at No. 32. He might be a more realistic target if the Eagles trade out of the first round.

Ranking the Eagles’ positional needs in the 2025 NFL Draft – PhillyVoice
1) Interior defensive line. The Eagles loaded up on interior linemen in the draft from 2021-2023, selecting Milton Williams, Jordan Davis, Jalen Carter, and Moro Ojomo. However, they didn’t add any in 2024, they lost Williams in free agency, and they’ll have a decision to make soon on Davis’ fifth-year option for 2026. The Eagles didn’t really have great iDL depth in 2024, but it didn’t matter because Carter was a beast who played a ton of snaps and the rest stayed healthy. The Eagles have an immediate need for iDL depth, and a longer-term need for a future starter. And, you know, they highly prioritize the interior of their D-line. Ideal fit: Walter Nolan, Ole Miss: Nolen felt like a clear fit when we initially profiled him back in November, and nothing has changed. Nolan’s career production has not always matched up with his potential, as he was the No. 1 recruit in the nation (via ESPN) coming out of high school. Still, he is gifted with an extremely enticing blend of power and quickness, and his production improved throughout his college career. First round projection.

Ex-Eagles player posts cryptic Instagram message after people showed their ‘true colors’ – NJ.com
Former Eagles safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson has not said much since he was traded to the Houston Texans in March. On Monday, Gardner-Johnson took to social media to explain why. In an Instagram video story, Gardner-Johnson said he decided to stay quiet after seeing how some people were acting. “People showed me their true colors when I got traded,” Gardner-Johnson said. “(Bleep). That’s why you haven’t heard from me.”

Eagles Huddle Up for Autism – PE.com
To kick off Autism Acceptance Month, the Eagles hosted their annual Huddle Up for Autism to raise critical funds for autism research at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Check out a recap of this fun-filled day and be on the lookout for next year’s date.

Packers President Mark Murphy is optimistic that a rule banning the tush push will pass – PFT
The Packers’ proposal to ban the tush push wasn’t voted upon at the league meeting, but Packers President Mark Murphy sounds confident that the tush push will be out of the NFL this season. Murphy said in a video released by the team that he believes there’s enough support for a rule against pushing runners to be adopted next month. “I think it ended up in a good place,” Murphy said. “We ended up tabling it, but we had a really good discussion, talked a little bit about our safety concerns regarding the play, just kind of the style of the play, but good interaction with the league and so it’ll be tabled and then what we’re going to do is it’ll be voted on in the May meeting and so we’re going to go — in 2005, the league did away with the rule that you couldn’t push runners and so we’re going to go back and see the language that we had in 2004 and I’m optimistic. I think there’s enough people that kind of look at it and say it’s really not good for the game, it’s more a rugby play than a football play, just kind of go back to what used to be the rule.”

Daily Slop – 8 Apr 25 – Wes Welker joins former Texas Tech teammate Kliff Kingsbury on Commanders staff – Hogs Haven
Former Pro Bowl wide receiver Wes Welker will join the team as a personnel analyst, working with both the personnel and coaching staffs, according to two people with knowledge of the hire. He will start around the time the Commanders’ offseason program begins April 22, one of those people said.

4 Cowboys with a lot to lose in upcoming draft – Blogging The Boys
CBs Trevon Diggs and DaRon Bland. It is widely projected that Dallas will target a cornerback early in this draft, even as high as the first round. The higher the investment, the more likely it is that the Cowboys are preparing to move from one of their high-profile veterans. Diggs is coming off two tough years wrecked by his 2023 injury. After his 11-interception season in 2021, he remained an excellent overall corner but then got injured in Week 2 of the 2023 season. While he did return to play in 11 games last year, Diggs was clearly still not all the way back. There was also talk that the team was not happy with how he approached his medical care and rehab, potentially limiting him in 2025 as well. Bland also just had a down year following a training camp foot injury. His record-breaking performance in 2023 with five touchdowns off interceptions was far from duplicated; no turnovers of any kind in the seven games he played last season. But Bland did look better in coverage by the end of the year, leaving hope that he can get back to his previous form. The big difference between these two is where they are in their contracts. Diggs has four years left on the large deal he signed after 2022, while Bland is entering the final year of just his rookie contract. After this year, Diggs can be released for over $12 million in cap savings and Bland becomes an unrestricted free agent.

2025 NFL Draft: Giants, Browns and Titans headline nine teams that need to ace their picks this April – NFL.com
It has been a strange few years for the Cowboys. The offseason passivity is nothing new — just ask Dallas fans about it — but that has led to growing frustration, especially after the rival Eagles dominated in the Super Bowl. A coaching change from Mike McCarthy to Brian Schottenheimer has only muddied the waters, even if it turns out to be the right move. Taking care of the team’s own stars has been a necessary measure, and that effort continues as the Cowboys try to lock up Micah Parsons long term with a contract that likely will set a record for non-QBs. So far, the most interesting moves the Cowboys have made have been of the low-risk, potentially high-reward variety, such as buying low on former higher picks like Kenneth Murray Jr., Kaiir Elam, Javonte Williams and Solomon Thomas and trading for Joe Milton. Expecting all those additions to hit would be specious, at best. The Cowboys still have some sizable holes on both sides of the ball. On defense, they might need more run stoppers and help in the secondary. On offense, they could use playmakers at running back and receiver. The Eagles and Commanders are the current heavyweights of the division, while the Giants signed Russell Wilson and figure to be big players in the draft. The Cowboys must find ways to add talent between now and August to give Schottenheimer a chance Year 1.

NFL free-agency 2026 rankings: Micah Parsons, Brock Purdy highlight potential class – The Athletic
1) MICAH PARSONS. Myles Garrett reset the edge-rushing market this offseason with an extension averaging $40 million in APY. Parsons has an argument to be paid in that ballpark. No player has more pressures than Parsons (330) since he joined the league in 2021. Parsons has generated pressure on 20.3 percent of his pass-rush snaps in that span. No other player has a rate higher than 17.5 percent since the start of 2021. Lamb and Prescott were both in the final years of their contracts heading into the 2024 season. Lamb signed his extension on Aug. 26. Prescott signed his on Sept. 8. As our Jon Machota wrote last week, the expectation is that Parsons will “eventually get a deal done with the Cowboys that makes him one of the league’s highest-paid players.”

Mel Kiper mock draft: Abdul Carter and an interesting QB to New York Giants – Big Blue View
Jalen Milroe with the Giants/Daboll is such an interesting pairing. Daboll’s greatest success an an offensive coordinator/quarterback developer came with Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills. There are similarites between Milroe and Allen as outstanding runners, players with big arms and high ceilings, but also quarterbacks with bust potential because of accuracy issues. Matt Waldman of the Rookie Scouting Portfolio believes Milroe could be the best quarterback in the class. Here is what Waldman, who was a guest on Tuesday’s ‘Valentine’s Views’ podcast, wrote in his draft guide about Milroe.

The 2025 NFL Draft’s most intriguing defensive players at every position – SB Nation
EDGE: Oluwafemi Oladejo, UCLA. For a guy that was playing MIKE linebacker until the third game of 2024 at UCLA, Oladejo has some really impressive tools to work with as a developmental pass rusher. At 6’3 and 259 pounds, Oladejo also has a massive wingspan (76th percentile among EDGES according to Mockdraftable) and the explosiveness to elevate his ceiling (36 inch vertical jump is 82nd percentile among EDGES). What actually stands out about Oladejo is that he’s more impressive right now as a run defender than a pass rusher. You can’t leave him unblocked on the backside because he’ll track down the ballcarrier, and can use speed and power to displace edge defenders. Being a new player to the position comes with some growing pains (he’ll run himself out of plays and still has a ways to go when it comes to hand usage as a pass rusher), but he reminds me a lot of Philadelphia Eagles’ rookie EDGE Jalyx Hunt, who was taken in Round 3 and that’s where I expect Oladejo to go.
