The Linc – “It makes sense for everybody for Dallas Goedert to be here on a sensible deal”

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 4/7/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

In Roob’s Observations: Trying to understand the Dallas Goedert situation – NBCSP
1A. Listening to Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni at the owners meetings, it sure sounds like Dallas Goedert is already gone. When coaches and GMs start using the past tense to talk about a player, it’s never a good sign. I get it. Goedert is 30, he can’t get through a season healthy and he’s due $15 ½ million in 2025. That won’t work. What I don’t get is why the Eagles and Goedert can’t figure out a deal that makes sense for both sides. Goedert has to know his value on the open market isn’t going to be very high, so why not agree to a pay cut and have a chance to stay in Philly and play for a perennial Super Bowl contender? And the Eagles have to know they’re a better team with Goedert on the field than gone. Since 2020, Goedert has averaged 50.7 yards per game – 5th-most in the league among tight ends who’ve played at least 50 games. And look at his postseason production – 17-for-215 with a TD this year in the playoffs, 52-for-562 with four TDs in his career in the playoffs. On top of all that, the Eagles just don’t have a successor. Grant Calcaterra is OK but he’s not a TE1. They signed a couple guys, but they’re just guys. They could draft a tight end, but who knows what you’re going to get? It makes sense for everybody for Goedert to be here on a sensible deal, and it’s surprising that so far they haven’t figured out a way to make that happen.

Five takeaways from Nick Sirianni’s owners meetings media session – PhillyVoice
On Dallas Goedert… “Right now, he’s on our football team,” Sirianni said. “And obviously, Dallas Goedert has meant a lot to us. And we’ll see how that plays out. He’s a heck of a football player, heck of a leader. And I want to be able to have back as many guys as you possibly can. But that is not the reality of the NFL… “We won a Super Bowl last year and everybody, like I said, everybody was responsible for that. “And so anytime somebody moves on, whether it’s Sweaty or whether it’s Milton or you know whoever it is, you know obviously you did special things together and you’ll miss them along the way. So you want to try to hold on to as many guys as you can… but there’s more to it than that.” #JimmySays: I’ve said this before and I’ll say it again. Whenever a coach or GM says “Right now he’s on our football team,” it means he soon won’t be.

Do you want to see the Eagles on Hard Knocks? – BGN
The Philadelphia Eagles are suddenly now eligible to be featured on HBO’s Hard Knocks training camp series. NFL teams were previously exempt from being forced to participate in the show if they met at least one of the three following conditions: They have a first-year head coach. They made the playoffs in either of the last two years. They appeared on Hard Knocks within the last 10 years. The league changed those conditions this year, however.

Eagles Draft Talk- Iggles Blitz
The other thing that occurred to me is that the Eagles haven’t brought any TE prospects in for a visit. They did meet with some at the Senior Bowl and Combine, but that’s not the same thing. It is less indicative of serious interest. Every Senior Bowl player meets with every team. You go to the second floor of the players hotel in Mobile and there is a secure area where players meet teams. This is organized and run on a very specific schedule. Maybe the Eagles are trying to guard their interest in TEs. Maybe this is an anomaly and I’m overthinking it. We’ll see.

Contract rules, the salary cap, and Howie Roseman – Philly Cover Corner
Howie would (rightly) rather use cheaper future dollars when the cap is higher than today’s dollars, which is why he pushes so much into the future. And his view on risk is as long as he doesn’t make multiple big mistakes on player signings, he can handle any dead cap. We saw this with the Bradberry signing and current Bryce Huff deal. Both were bad signings where he got really no on-field value but it didn’t limit him at all. The sign of a team in a bad cap situation are cap casualties where they are releasing players ahead of time that they would prefer to keep because they can’t afford them. Howie rarely if ever is in this situation. Even CJGJ this off-season wasn’t a “forced into it” move due to current cap pressure, it was a move to make future room for coming extensions.

The 2022 NFL Draft: How a special weekend continues to pay dividends – PE.com
In a slam-bang series of moves on the first night of the Draft, the Eagles moved up in the early part of the first round to select Georgia defensive tackle Jordan Davis 13th overall. Less than an hour after drafting Davis, the Eagles sent the 18th overall pick and the 101st overall pick to Tennessee for Brown and then promptly signed Brown to a four-year contract. Needless to say, the Eagles were very, very happy at the end of that night in 2022. “To add two players like this is exciting,” Head Coach Nick Sirianni said at the time. “A.J. Brown is a proven receiver in this league, a bigger body, and he has done it in the NFL. There is no projection here. He has made plays in the NFL. Adding Jordan to our defensive line, it’s going to help us. We think these two players are big additions to our roster.”

An Eagles fan called out the Upper Darby mayor for being a Cowboys fan at a council meeting – Inquirer
As much as Howie Roseman is revered in Philadelphia, Cowboys owner and president Jerry Jones is the other side of the coin — hated and mocked in equal measure. So, at an Upper Darby Township council meeting on Wednesday, community activist and council regular Richard Blye cut as deep as possible speaking about mayor Ed Brown during part of his attempt to get abandoned cars removed from his district. “This is what happens, guys — residents of Upper Darby Township — when you elect a Cowboys fan to your government,“ Blye said at the meeting while wearing an Eagles Super Bowl shirt. ”Twenty-nine years of losing for this team. What do you expect from the leadership?

Former Eagles star Brent Celek adds a shopping center to his growing real estate portfolio – Philadelphia Business Journal
His brokerage Brent Celek Real Estate and title company Pando Abstract are situated in a 16,000-square-foot building in Media. He bought the building, which he describes as a WeWork for local real estate firms, with financing from Malvern-based Meridian Bank. In addition to his two businesses, the building is home to a property management firm, a construction management firm, five different real estate lawyers and an insurance firm. Celek said he chose the location because he only paid $100 per square foot for the building and felt property values in Media were on the upswing. The acquisition helped Celek develop his approach to real estate: playing the long game. “I’m a firm believer that when you find a good piece of real estate, you try to hold on to it, ideally forever,” Celek said.

Eagles game day staffer champions autism advocacy – 6ABC
When he’s not working on game day at the Linc, Eagles staffer Griffin Reichow is a champion for those who have autism. He participated in the Eagles Autism Challenge last year, running a 5K and helping to raise awareness and funds. He also helped the Eagles Autism Foundation decide where to allocate community grants.

How the Cowboys upgraded at backup QB with Joe Milton – Blogging The Boys
Milton ran a 4.65 40-yard dash at the NFL combine, and with his build of 6’5”, 235 lbs., he’s got the frame, and physical traits teams covet in not only backups but starting-caliber quarterbacks also. Why New England would part with Milton for a day three pick, including giving up another one to boot, is anyone’s guess. It’s too soon to tell, but could Dallas develop special packages for Milton in certain instances? Maybe. However, we do know that if Prescott misses games again this season, Milton will give the Cowboys an extra dimension with a team that would likely commit to the run sans Prescott. The addition of Milton makes the Cowboys an interesting watch this preseason as Milton will get plenty of chances to showcase his talents in Dallas. Give a round of applause to the front office that landed themselves a very valuable insurance policy.

NFL Draft rumors: New York Giants could face Abdul Carter, Shedeur Sanders choice at No. 3 – Big Blue View
It is beginning to look like the New York Giants’ choice at No. 3 in the 2025 NFL Draft will be between Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Penn State edge defender Abdul Carter. Following Friday’s Colorado Pro Day, the Tennessee Titans cancelled a private workout for Sanders and cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter. The Titans have been considered likely to select Miami quarterback Cam Ward with the No. 1 overall pick, and that would now appear all but certain. Meanwhile, until recently the Cleveland Browns had been heavily linked to both Sanders and Penn State edge defender Abdul Carter. That appears to have shifted.

2025 NFL draft edge rusher projections: Rankings, comps – ESPN+
2. Shemar Stewart, Texas A&M. There really are no historical prospects similar to Stewart. He ran a 4.59-second 40 at the combine with a 40-inch vertical and a broad jump of 10-foot-11. But he was unproductive over three years at Texas A&M, with just 1.5 sacks per season. It’s not rare to have a player with very few college sacks who dominates the athletic drills at the combine and turn outs as a success in the NFL. But these players in the past primarily had only one season of experience as a starting edge rusher, such as Jason Pierre-Paul, Clay Matthews and Ezekiel Ansah. Hunter is the one player who comes out remotely close to Stewart in the variables used in SackSEER. Hunter also had just 4.5 sacks in college, in his case as a two-year starter. But he was 240 pounds when he came out of LSU in 2015. Stewart is a lot bigger (267 pounds vs. 252). There are also some similarities to Cornelius Washington, who came out of Georgia in 2013. Washington ran a 4.53-second 40 at 265 pounds with a 39-inch vertical and a broad jump of 10 feet, 8 inches. However, Washington had 10.5 sacks in four years at Georgia and was only considered a fringe prospect. He was drafted by the Bears in the sixth round. Stewart is going to be a first-round pick. Most scouts agree that his tape is better than his sack totals. But our projections really don’t know what to do with him.

Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Lamar Jackson have legal beef … seriously – SB Nation
NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt Jr. and NFL superstar Lamar Jackson are two of the most unlikely people you’d expect to be beefing, but here we are — and it all comes down to the number eight.
