With the 8th pick in the POD Community Mock, the Carolina Panthers select…
It’s time for the Carolina Panthers to make their pick in our 2025 Pride of Detroit Community Mock Draft. Acting as the Panthers general manager this year is commenter BigFan_19.
The Panthers are a fascinating team to draft for this year. While last year’s 5-12 season was a massive disappointment for Carolina, they did go 4-5 down the stretch and may have some hope at quarterback for the first time in a while.
Before we get into the Panthers’ pick, here’s a look at how the draft has gone so far:
1. Titans: QB Cam Ward
2. Browns: QB Shedeur Sanders
3. Giants: WR/CB Travis Hunter
4. Patriots: WR Tetairoa McMillan
5. Jaguars: DT Mason Graham
6. Raiders: EDGE Abdul Carter
7. Jets: OT Armand Membou
With the eighth overall pick in the POD Community Mock Draft, the Carolina Panthers have selected….
Tyler Warren, tight end from Penn State.
Here’s BigFan_19 with the explanation for the pick:
Do the Panthers have their QB of the future? Bryce Young greatly underwhelmed his rookie season and then was benched after two games last season. After a five game stint from Andy Dalton, Young was inserted back in (due to a Dalton injury) and performed relatively well. Young’s promising performance, combined with a lethargic QB market, makes him the unquestioned starter going into 2025. Young will be entering a make-or-break year, and with a promising QB class in the 2026 draft, the Panthers will surely look to move on from Young if he fails to progress.
But the Panthers certainly haven’t done Young any favors with his supporting cast. The O-Line is about average, and the skill players aren’t much better. The Panthers do have a deep RB room with Chuba Hubbard, Rico Dowdle, and Jonathan Brooks, but their top receiver is Adam Thielen, who will be 35 when the season starts. Last year’s 32nd overall pick Xavier Legette showed some promise his rookie season but cannot be counted on to be a #1 receiver. The TE room is also weak, with 5th-year starter Tommy Tremble having never surpassed 250 yards in a season.
This brings us to Tyler Warren, who was one of the most exciting skill players in the country last season. Warren led Penn State in receiving with 1233 yards, and he ran 26 times for 218 yards (an incredible 8.4 yard average). Warren can slot into the Panthers starting lineup and provide an immediate impact similar to Sam LaPorta and Brock Bowers.
While the Panthers do have a variety of needs, with Georgia LB/EDGE Jalon Walker receiving consideration for this pick, if Young finally proves himself and Warren quickly lives up to his full potential, the Panthers should have a top-10 offense for years to come.
