At the NFL’s annual meeting, the Eagles GM and head coach spoke about their between tight end’s future in Philly.
The Eagles have been reportedly looking for a trade partner to offload TE Dallas Goedert since before the start of free agency. Howie Roseman and Nick Sirianni spoke to reporters at the NFL annual meeting, and they both were complimentary of their veteran player while acknowledging the future is a bit uncertain.
Roseman acknowledged there was no update as far as what the future might hold with the TE, but his response left the door open for a move to be made.
ROSEMAN: Obviously, Dallas [Goedert] has been a tremendous player and person for us. We have tremendous respect for him, and in both those regards as a player and in person. The opportunities that we got into free agency with Harrison Bryant and (Kylen) Granson were just opportunities we felt were good for our football team. And I know certainly Dallas is a unique player. So really, that’s kind of where we stand.”
When asked about wanting Goedert back in 2025, Sirianni hedged a bit.
SIRIANNI: Right now, he’s on our football team. And obviously, Dallas Goedert has meant a lot to us. We’ll see how that plays out. He’s a heck of a football player, heck of a leader. Want to be able to have back as many guys as you possibly can, but that’s not the reality of the NFL. We’ll see what happens and how that happens, but of course you want everyone back.”
The Eagles were reportedly hoping to get a fourth-round pick, but have yet to find someone willing to meet that price as well as offer the right contract price for Goedert. The TE is still under contract in 2025, but is likely looking for a new deal with more money than the Eagles are willing to commit to an older guy with some injury concerns. Plus, the Eagles are already capped at a maximum 4 compensatory draft picks for 2026, so the value really needs to be there in a trade.
The Eagles didn’t end up trading Zach Ertz until close to the 2021 trade deadline, so there’s still plenty of time for something to get done, but expect rumors and reports to increase as we get closer to the draft.
