Updated NFL uniform policy could mean more games featuring Miami Dolphins throwbacks

Will we see Miami’s beautiful throwback uniforms a maximum of four times this upcoming season?

A recently updated NFL uniform policy may mean increased appearances for the most beautiful throwback uniforms in the National Football League. Of course, I’m talking about the Miami Dolphins’ uniforms featuring a retro logo and letter/number scheme that hearkens back to the franchise’s debut jerseys from their inaugural season in 1966.

On Monday, Jordan Schulz of FOX Sports reported that the NFL changed their policy which limited throwback/alternate jersey usage. Clubs can now wear alternate uniforms a maximum of four times throughout a single season.

Another minor change allows teams to wear their alternate pants in the playoffs — something that was previously banned in previous uniform policies. Teams will still be required to wear their primary uniforms in the Super Bowl, however.

The Dolphins wore throwback uniforms twice in 2024 — against the Buffalo Bills in Week 2 and against the Green Bay Packers on Thanksgiving in Week 13. Unfortunately, Miami’s retro uniforms weren’t a good luck charm in 2024, as the team lost both games where the throwbacks were worn.

Still, for fans of the Dolphins throwback jerseys — and there are plenty of them, myself included — Monday’s policy change is a welcomed one.
