Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 3/31/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Source: Tush push ban has support in competition committee – ESPN
One club source told ESPN that their team would be voting against the proposal because they don’t believe the proposal is “honest about the reason.” An NFL head coach told ESPN he thinks the proposal is motivated by pettiness because some clubs don’t have quarterbacks capable of running a push sneak. “It’s weak,” the club executive said. “It’s punishing a team who became excellent at executing the play. In 2022, when Philadelphia was the only team doing it, there was a concern that it made the game less compelling because fourth-and-short was no longer in doubt. Then other teams copied it, and they can’t do it as well. “It reeks of jealousy.”

There is only one intellectually honest reason for banning the Tush Push – BGN
I get that people may find it aesthetically unpleasant. If that’s the case, just say so. Just say you hate the way it looks. Acknowledge it’s a great play, admit you can’t stop it, admit you’re weak and feeble and that there’s nothing you can do about it, and make the argument. Frankly, the pace of play argument holds more water than the injury argument, but unless a team is acting ridiculously, like we saw with Washington, it doesn’t affect pace of play at all. The only way a ban has any intellectual honesty is if the NFL decides to ban all pushing of players on the field.

Sean McDermott on tush push opposition: Being proactive about safety is right way to go – PFT
“I’m not a doctor, so I’m not gonna get too deep into that situation in terms of how much data, how much sample,” McDermott said, via Eliot Shorr-Parks of WIP. “I don’t think that’s always really the best way to go. There’s other data out there that when you’re in a posture like we’re talking about, that can lead to serious injury. I think being responsible and proactive in that regard is the right way to go.” While the Eagles are the team linked to the play most often, the Bills have had success running it as well. McDermott said his “biggest concern” is the health and safety of players, but was noncommittal when asked if those concerns will stop the Bills from using it if the play remains legal this week.

NFL mock draft 2025: Updated projection with first-round picture becoming more clear – SB Nation
No. 32: Philadelphia Eagles — Donovan Ezeiruaku, EDGE — Boston College. A slightly undersized pass rusher who falls to the No. 32 pick because of his smaller size. This won’t concern the Eagles too much, who are gifted at scheming open options for pass rushers to be effective. Ezeiruaku can be an immediate upgrade as a rotational pass rusher with the potential to become a starter in years two or three.

Howie Roseman offers a scouting report on the newest Eagles – PE.com
Acquiring OL Kenyon Green from Houston: “Here’s a guy who just turned 24 years old, who we had done a lot of work on coming into the 2022 NFL Draft. We felt like he had tools in his body, great character, and I think he’d be the first to admit that his career hasn’t gotten off to the start that he’d like it to have, but we feel like he’s got a chance to kind of reinvent himself and start over here in Philadelphia and that will be the opportunity for him.”

Mailbag: Could the Eagles sign S Justin Simmons after the draft? – PhillyVoice
Justin Simmons was a really good player earlier in his career, particularly when he played for Vic Fangio in Denver. But, he had a down year in 2024, and he turns 32 in November. I’d be worried that he’s Kevin Byard 2.0. The safety who I think would be a good fit as a third guy is Julian Blackmon, who we profiled in greater detail here. As for the timing of a possible safety signing, Blackmon isn’t likely to command enough money to count toward the comp pick formula, so the Eagles could sign him at any time. Simmons might still be at least moderately costly, so if he were to get a deal from the Eagles, then yes, they would prefer to wait until after the draft, when player signings no longer count toward to comp pick formula. Simmons recently expressed interest in playing for Fangio in Philly, so I wouldn’t completely rule it out, but the sense I get is that the Eagles want to let their young players grow into bigger roles, and the time is probably now for Sydney Brown.

NFL’s best revenge games in 2025: Super Bowl LIX rematch, Caleb Williams vs. Jayden Daniels and more – NFL.com
The Eagles and Chiefs are likely to enter 2025 as the favorites in their respective conferences. And while a Super Bowl rubber match — following Philly’s defeat of K.C. in Super Bowl LIX and the Chiefs’ win over the Eagles in Super Bowl LVII — is certainly a possibility in February, we know these two teams will get it going during the regular season. Yes, I realize that doesn’t carry the same punch as a title clash for all the marbles, but it should still be very entertaining — kind of like one of those WWE matches where Cody Rhodes gives you reason to watch a non-championship fight. And it will be an opportunity for the Chiefs to score a point in the first half, unlike what they managed the last time out against the Eagles, so they have that going for them.

Top Eagles storylines at 2025 NFL owners meetings – NBCSP
There are several topics to discuss with Lurie, including the status of a contract extension for head coach Nick Sirianni. While the Eagles don’t talk about negotiations publicly, we might get a sense of how soon an extension will be completed for the Super Bowl-winning head coach who enters his final season under contract in 2025. A year ago, we were getting set to ask Lurie why he decided to keep Sirianni; a lot can change in 12 months. There are some other issues to chat with Lurie about. One of them being the potential for the next Eagles’ stadium to be a dome. That’s a topic that came up during Opening Night last month in New Orleans. In the NFLPA report card, the Eagles got some good marks and some bad. They were ranked 30th in team travel, though, and their locker room ranked 27th. They were also ranked 27th in treatment of families as one of a fe teams that doesn’t provide daycare during home games. And then there’s the topic of play style. Lurie has talked before about wanting his team to be on the cutting edge of passing offense but the Eagles had a run-first attack in 2024. Obviously, their plan worked and the passing offense was there when they needed it. But a tad curious if the 2024 season changed any of Lurie’s beliefs in that area.

2025 NFL Mock Draft: Travis Hunter joins Patriots before Bills, Bears and Titans make big trades – PFF
32. Philadelphia Eagles: DI Derrick Harmon, Oregon. The Eagles close out the first round with Harmon, who should be a natural replacement for the departed Milton Williams. Harmon led all FBS defensive tackles with 55 pressures this past season. His 86.3 PFF pass-rush grade tied him for third place among that same group.

Stanford Football Announces Frank Reich as Interim Head Coach for 2025 Season – Stanford
Frank Reich has been named Stanford’s interim head football coach as announced Monday by Stanford Football General Manager Andrew Luck. The 36th head coach in program history, Reich will serve as interim head coach for the 2025 campaign. Reich will be introduced at a press conference on Tuesday.

Updated Commanders 74-player offseason roster/depth chart and salary cap at the end of March 2025 – Hogs Haven
Overall, Adam Peters again seems to have focused on raising the floor in veteran free agency, and has traded draft picks three times since early November in an effort to make immediate roster upgrades by acquiring CB Marshon Lattimore, WR Deebo Samuel and LT Laremy Tunsil. He will have an additional 5 bites at the apple in April’s draft, with 1st, 2nd & 4th round picks in particular available to help raise the ceiling on the 2025 roster.

Cowboys QB Dak Prescott reportedly doing well but will have limitations in offseason program – Blogging The Boys
It has been a long time since we saw Dak Prescott play for the Dallas Cowboys. The team’s franchise quarterback underwent season-ending surgery for a hamstring injury that occurred well before Thanksgiving last year. Prescott’s last game played was all the way back on November 3rd, 2024. There haven’t been a lot of quotes about Prescott’s recovery, but Stephen Jones did speak about it ahead of the week’s owners meetings. The team’s EVP noted that Prescott is doing well, but he did add that Dak will have some limitations over the offseason program.

Giants GM Joe Schoen: Russell Wilson ‘knows what it looks like’ – Big Blue View
On signing quarterback Russell Wilson … Schoen said he was “happy with the way” the team’s pursuit of veteran quarterbacks ended up. “He’s a 10-time Pro Bowler, a guy who’s throwing for over 20 touchdowns, I believe it’s every year except for two in his career. He played 11 games last year and threw for 16 [touchdowns]. So, the production, he knows what it looks like. He knows how to win. Leadership. I’m just excited to have a guy in the building with as many skins on the wall as he has at the quarterback position.”
