The Linc – Tush push ban proposal is now “getting more momentum”

The Linc – Tush push ban proposal is now “getting more momentum”

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

NFL on the verge of banning the ‘Tush Push’ – SB Nation

It appears as though detractors of the Philadelphia Eagles’ most unstoppable offensive weapon are going to get their wish. The possibility of banning the “Tush Push” has been on the table since the end of the NFL season, and now it’s drawing closer to a reality. A vote from NFL owners will come next week on whether or not to ban the controversial play, with Dianna Russini of The Athletic saying that there’s now momentum behind banning the play. The first push to ban the play came from the Green Bay Packers, but there had been whispers about frustration over the play brewing for several years — peaking this last season as the Buffalo Bills added the Tush Push to their repertoire as well.

Packers push back on Eagles’ ‘Tush Push’ is gaining momentum, NFL insider says – NJ.com

“I’m hearing that the ‘Tush Push’ is building some momentum,” Russini said. “I know we talked about it here on the show, where I said that I think this probably would not be the year or I could see a change happen. I feel like it’s getting more momentum in terms of those opposed to it than I’ve ever heard before. Usually, it’s like everyone going, ‘Nah, nah, nah,’ and there are those one or two people that sit on it and are against it, but it’s catching fire.”

2025 NFL mock draft signup for the annual BGN community mock is coming soon! – BGN

The BGN Community Mock Draft is back for another year! The actual 2025 NFL Draft start date, April 24, is four weeks away, so we’re just about ready to begin. Please make sure to check out the rules. The selection process doesn’t start until Friday, March 28 at 2:00 PM Eastern Time. This is just a “HEADS UP” post to give everyone a fair shot at getting their team of choice.

Will there be enough votes to kill the tush push? – PFT

We’re mentioning it because of this observation about a tush-push ban from Dianna Russini of TheAthletic.com: “I feel like it’s getting more momentum in terms of those opposed to it than I’ve ever heard before.” That’s all relative, of course. If there’s never been much momentum against the play (and there hasn’t been), any momentum would be more than ever before. All that matters for present purposes is 24. Is there a proposal, any proposal, that would get 24 owners to support it. Most importantly, would that proposal truly ban the maneuver? The Packers’ proposal would merely delay it. If there are 24 owners who want to get rid of it entirely, it would be very easy to do it. The fact that there’s no clean and simple and direct proposal that would ban the play suggests that the league remains a long way away from having the requisite 24 votes.

Report: Matt Pryor signed with the Philadelphia Eagles – Windy City Gridiron

Earlier today, Philadelphia Eagles reporter Jeff McLane tweeted that the Eagles were signing Matt Pryor to a one-year deal. Pryor played in all 17 games (15 starts) for the Chicago Bears in 2024, mostly at right guard, but he did see some reps at both tackle spots, left guard, and as a sixth offensive lineman. The versatile reserve returns to the reigning Super Bowl champion Eagles, who drafted him in the sixth round in 2018, and he figures to provide depth for one of the best offensive lines in the game today.

NFC East 2025 free agency grades: Philadelphia Eagles edition – PhillyVoice

Some of the young players in bigger roles will step up and play well, some might struggle. We’ll see. But the Eagles are in a position to entrust young players with starting roles because they are so flush with star players on both sides of the ball. It’s a lot easier to assimilate into a bigger role if you’re a guy like Kelee Ringo or Sydney Brown or Jalyx Hunt when you get to play alongside great players like Jalen Carter, Nolan Smith, Zack Baun, Quinyon Mitchell, and Cooper DeJean. Similarly, starting at RG isn’t so tough when the rest of the offensive line is basically an all-star team. Oh, and in the process of losing a bunch of free agents, the Eagles are projected to receive three compensatory picks in the 2026 draft, in the third, fourth, and fifth rounds. Are the Eagles a worse team right now than they were when they took the field in New Orleans in February? Yes, of course they are. But there is also pretty clearly a reasonable succession plan in place, which again, should be easier to navigate with so many blue chip players on the roster. Grade: B-

Another Biggie – Iggles Blitz

The Eagles lost a big dude when 6-7, 360 Mekhi Becton left in free agency. We know Jeff Stoutland likes big blockers so it isn’t a surprise that the Eagles signed 6-7, 330 Matt Pryor on Thursday. Pryor was drafted by the Eagles in 2018. He started 10 games in 2020, when the Eagles OL was a disaster due to injuries. Pryor was…not good. In the summer of 2021 Pryor was traded to the Colts, where he started 14 games in two years. Pryor went to SF in 2023 and then the Bears last year. He started 15 games for them, playing both RG and RT. Why would the Eagles want Pryor? He is a better player now than he was back then. Pryor started 29 games and got valuable experience. He is a functional RG. With his size, he can be an effective RT, but would need help. He’s not someone you want starting multiple games out there. You wonder if watching Becton at RG made Stoutland want to get a bigger body in there.

The Consensus Picks: We Combined 36 Mock Drafts To Get A Handle On An Unpredictable 2025 NFL Draft Class – PHLY

32) Eagles. Walter Nolen appears as high as No. 8 on this sample of Mock Drafts, and there are some that have him dropping completely out of Round One all together. He’s a great example of how this draft is going to be so hard to predict. Most mocks have the Eagles addressing the defensive front in some way, shape or form, and through much of their Super Bowl run in the early stages of the pre-draft process, analysts were all over the place in trying to predict who Howie Roseman would select. They will be another fun team to track down the home stretch.

How much of Eagles’ 2025 starting lineup is already locked in? – NBCSP

RG (not a lock): Tyler Steen. The Eagles will have another new starter at right guard in 2025, following Mekhi Becton (2024), Cam Jurgens (2023), Isaac Seumalo (2022), Brandon Brooks (2021), Nate Herbig (2020) and Brooks (2019). The last time the Eagles had stability at this position was when Brooks was in his Pro Bowl run but that was a while ago. The Eagles were prepared to go into the 2024 season with Steen as their starter but when he suffered a minor ankle injury in training camp, they plugged Becton into that spot and he never gave it up. Becton this offseason signed a two-year deal to join the Chargers, leaving this spot open again. Obviously, Steen is the most likely candidate to win this job but based on what happened last season, he’s definitely not a lock. The Eagles got former first-round pick Kenyon Green in the C.J. Gardner-Johnson trade and brought back 2018 draft pick Matt Pryor, who has NFL starting experience. While Green has struggled in the NFL and has only played left guard in the league, he should also be in the competition. Pryor has 39 career starts and started 15 games for the Bears last season. And it seems very possible the Eagles will use an early pick on an offensive lineman next month.

Best NFL QB additions since 2020: Jayden Daniels, Tom Brady show multiple paths to success – NFL.com

BEST DAY 2 PICK. Today, you know Jalen Hurts as the MVP of Super Bowl LIX. Back in 2020, his selection in the second round seemed to many like a curious move at best and a reckless splurge at worst. Why use a top-60 pick on a high-profile quarterback prospect when the Eagles already had Carson Wentz , who was signed to a second contract and putting up top-10 numbers? Then Philly disintegrated in 2020 — and a one-year blip probably would have become an outright disaster if Hurts had not stepped in when Wentz (who turned the ball over a league-high 19 times that season) lost his way. That’s not to say Hurts has been perfect, but he’s given the Eagles what they needed, elevating the offense with his arm and legs when required — and, unlike Wentz, he showed he could actually reverse a concerning turnover habit. As we move through the draft portion of this list especially, we will see a theme develop: Teams often benefit from having multiple options cooking at QB. Still, there is one note of caution to offer anyone hoping to hit a similar second- or third-round home run in the future: Hurts (with a 46-20 record) is the only Day 2 pick from the past five drafts to log more than eight QB wins since 2020. The records of the other Day 2 QBs to start games in that span for the teams that drafted them ( Desmond Ridder , 8-9 with Atlanta; Davis Mills , 5-19-1 with Houston; Will Levis , 5-16 with Tennessee; Malik Willis , 1-2 with Tennessee) show the limitations of taking “value” swings at the position — unless, of course, you get ludicrously lucky.

Kelly Clarkson has high praise for Eagles offensive lineman Jordan Mailata: ‘I didn’t know he sang so well’ – Inquirer

Jordan Mailata’s voice has blessed the ears of thousands of Eagles fans for more than two years now for his work with the The Philly Specials. Now, his work has reached the ears of three-time Grammy winning singer Kelly Clarkson and it’s safe to say Mailata just gained a new fan. “I didn’t know he sang so well. I had no idea,” said Clarkson on the latest episode of Not Gonna Lie with Kylie Kelce. “I went down the rabbit hole afterwards because everybody was like, ‘Did you know he sings,’ and I was like ‘What?’ I heard him sing the anthem better than most singers. I found out literally minutes after I met him.”

Contract details for the Washington Commanders’ offseason roster additions (Part 3) – Hogs Haven

TE Zach Ertz. You can copy & paste my comments about the Bobby Wagner contract here, with lower numbers. His cap hit for the season will be $6.25m. In his media session today, Ertz said that, at this point in his career, it’s not about the money. He apparently just loves playing in Washington.

3 free agents the Cowboys could consider before the draft – Blogging The Boys

Amari Cooper. Earlier this offseason, there was speculation that Dallas could be interested in former wide receiver Michael Gallup, who came out of retirement and then signed with the Washington Commanders. How about reuniting with another former receiver? Amari Cooper coming back to Dallas would make sense. While Cooper is coming off the worst season of his career, we know his abilities fit well with quarterback Dak Prescott. Cooper went to the Pro Bowl twice with Prescott. If he returns to Dallas, he wouldn’t be counted on as a top option, and would be working in support of CeeDee Lamb as Lamb did for Cooper in his first two seasons in the NFL. Cooper has the ability to play in different spots as a wide receiver and would give the offense more unpredictability with their formations. Cooper still has enough gas in the tank to stretch the field. His market has been ice cold as of late. Therefore, it shouldn’t cost much to bring him back to Dallas.

Could the New York Giants, Cleveland Browns compete for Jaxson Dart, not Shedeur Sanders? – Big Blue View

What if neither the Cleveland Browns, with the No. 2 overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, nor the New York Giants, with the No. 3 pick, love Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders enough to select him with those picks? Could the Browns and Giants then end up competing to move up somewhere in the draft and select Jaxson Dart of Ole Miss, considered by many to be QB3 in this draft class? The Browns have pick No. 33, the first pick in Round 2. The Giants have pick No. 34. If neither team takes Sanders, both figure to be eyeballing Dart. Which means a trade back into Round 1.

2025 NFL draft: Latest buzz, prospect rumors, pro day risers – ESPN+

What are you hearing around the league on what the Giants will do at No. 3? Miller: I’m hearing quarterback, even after signing Russell Wilson to a one-year deal. A scout told me, “New York loving Shedeur is the worst-kept secret in the league right now.” According to that scout, the Giants had a presence at every Colorado home game this season. The Wilson and Jameis Winston deals shouldn’t prevent the Giants from drafting a quarterback at No. 3 if one of the top two passers is available. But should Ward and Sanders both be off the board, the Giants will be a premier destination for Colorado’s Travis Hunter, given the team’s needs at wide receiver and cornerback. Reid: Yeah, based on what I’m hearing from sources, finding a young QB is still at the top of the priority list for the Giants. Wilson and Winston help the team cover its bases if Ward and Sanders are not on the board, but signing them doesn’t necessarily keep New York from drafting a QB. As Matt pointed out, the team could pivot to Hunter or Penn State’s Abdul Carter with its pick. General manager Joe Schoen was aggressive in addressing the team’s secondary issues by signing cornerback Paulson Adebo and safety Jevon Holland in free agency. Hunter could get into the mix, while also pairing well with wide receiver Malik Nabers for a dynamic duo on the perimeter on offense.

No one said they’d be easy: Phillies 7, Nationals 3 – The Good Phight

Opening Days are usually beautiful affairs, what with the pomp and circumstance, the pageantry that is involved in the day. Introductions of the players and coaching staff, flags waving in the breeze and baseball on the field. It’s supposed to be a stress free day thanks to the fact that there are 161 more games to go. Instead, we get what the Phillies gave us. [BLG Note: Welcome back, Phillies!]
