The Linc – PFF highlights the Eagles’ free agent signing with the most upside

Philadelphia Eagles news and links for 3/25/25.

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Every NFL team’s free-agent signing with the most upside – PFF
Philadelphia Eagles: EDGE Josh Uche. Contract: One year, $1.92 million Leave it to the Eagles to acquire a defensive lineman with star power for pennies on the dollar. In 2022, Uche established himself as one of the league’s most promising edge rushers after racking up 56 quarterback pressures (tied for 20th), including 12 sacks (tied for 12th). A less productive 2023 campaign and a slow start to 2024 facilitated Uche’s exit, via a trade to the Chiefs before last season’s deadline. While the former second-rounder has been in something of a rut, the Eagles will put him in a position to succeed, as they often do with their young defensive linemen.

Best- and worst-case scenarios for Eagles’ additions in free agency – NBCSP
OLB Josh Uche. The second-round pick from the 2020 draft signed a one-year deal with the Eagles. Uche, 26, played the first 4 1/2 years of his career with the Patriots before getting traded to the Chiefs in 2024 before the deadline. Best case: Like Ojulari, Uche helps bolster that edge rusher group with Smith and Hunt leading the way. He provides the type of depth the Eagles need, especially if Bryce Huff either gets traded or if he continues to struggle to find his footing in Vic Fangio’s defense. It’s unfair to think that Uche will be a starter or that he’ll duplicate his 11.5-sack season in 2022 but his ceiling could be as a veteran depth piece who picks up a few sacks and provides good snaps off the bench. Worst case: The Chiefs were on to something when they didn’t play him almost at all in the second-half of the 2024 season. He follows in the footsteps of Julian Okwara and Terrell Lewis as veteran edge rushers who fail to make the team and in a year you forget that he was even here.

Eagles sign veteran offensive tackle – BGN
Lamm, who turns 33 in June, originally entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2015. Since then, he’s logged 45 starts in 127 career games played (including playoffs) for the combination of the Houston Texans, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, and Miami Dolphins. Lamm most recently made seven starts for the Dolphins in 2024. He ranked 33rd out of 85 offensive tackles graded by Pro Football Focus last season. Over the course of his career, he’s often graded out better as a pass protector than a run blocker.

Former Miami Dolphins offensive lineman forgoes retirement; signs with Philadelphia Eagles instead – The Phinsider
Last season was supposed to be offensive lineman Kendall Lamm’s swansong in the National Football League. According to the player himself, his 2024 season with the Miami Dolphins was going to be his last before riding off into the sunset and retiring. Well, some plans are meant to be changed. On Monday, it was reported by Peter Schrager of NFL Network that Lamm has signed a one-year deal with the Super Bowl champion Philadelphia Eagles. I guess when the champs come calling, you pick up the phone.

The Lamm Lies Down on Broad Street – Iggles Blitz
Joking aside, Lamm is a solid addition. He’s played RT and LT. He started 7 games for Miami last season and 8 the year before that. Lamm is best suited to be a swing tackle, not a full time starter. The Eagles are set at both OT spots so Lamm comes to Philly to be the top backup. He isn’t a great player, obviously. Lamm is good enough to stay in the league, but he’s not good enough that you want him starting on a regular basis. Hopefully some training by Jeff Stoutland will help bring out the best in him. His addition doesn’t change anything in terms of the draft. The Eagles can take an OT if they like one. The addition of Lamm means they don’t have to take one. We know they are looking at OTs by the fact they have brought four guys to Philly for visits. If the right guy is available at the right spot, they can go get him. But Lamm gives them flexibility. They don’t need to feel forced into anything.

2025 NFL mock draft: Tannenbaum makes GM picks for Round 1 – ESPN
32. Philadelphia Eagles. Grey Zabel, G, North Dakota State. Philly doesn’t have many apparent short-term needs. So even though I’m standing in for GM Howie Roseman, I’m sticking with his draft tendencies and addressing the trenches. Zabel is tough and versatile, and he was outstanding at the Senior Bowl. He played both tackle spots and both guard spots at North Dakota State, but I see him playing guard in the pros. And I think Zabel could compete with Tyler Steen to replace Mekhi Becton, who is now with the Chargers.

Jerome Brown has been gone for 32 years. The Eagles still make his family and hometown feel close to him. – Inquirer
Calvin Brown was sitting on his brother’s couch in Brooksville, Fla., watching the Super Bowl last month, when he saw someone familiar. It was an Eagles defensive tackle. He was big, aggressive, and getting double-teamed for most of the game. This wasn’t a successful strategy for the Chiefs. While Jalen Carter soaked up most of their attention, the rest of the Eagles’ defensive line was freed to rush the quarterback. Brown turned to his brothers.“That reminds me of Jerome,” he said. About 60 miles away, in Orlando, Dee Brown thought the same thing.“ Jalen is aggressive, playful, talking trash the entire game,” he said. “That definitely reminds me of the old man.”

Grading the NFC East defenses pre-draft – Who stands out above the rest? – Hogs Haven
But did Washington actually improve on the defensive side of the ball like they did on offense? Gone are Jonathan Allen, Jeremy Chinn and Dante Fowler, and I’m not sure the pieces added will match the production of those players. Thankfully for Peters, the NFL Draft is a month away and reinforcements should be coming. Below, I look at how the Commanders current depth chart compares to our rivals in the NFC East.

Waiting on extending Micah Parsons is going to cost the Cowboys again – Blogging The Boys
The best teams have learned this, and have started to get out ahead of their biggest deals well before they are forced to act. Extending a player with two years left on their current contract used to be a rarity. That’s no longer the case, because there’s value in locking down your stars as early as possible. The players like the added security and guarantees, and it helps the team with future planning and cap flexibility. So why aren’t the Cowboys adapting along with the rest of the NFL? Why are we now looking at two straight offseasons of Dallas sitting on their hands and letting the rest of the league dictate their contract terms, instead of setting the market for themselves? Cowboys fans have their own ideas on that answer, so let’s hear your answer in the comments, but the way the team operates is incredibly frustrating.

Chad Reuter mock draft hits the marks for the New York Giants – Big Blue View
Round 1 (No. 3) — Shedeur Sanders, QB, Colorado. Reuter gives quarterback Cam Ward to the Tennessee Titans at No. 1 and edge defender Abdul Carter to the Cleveland Browns at No. 2. That leaves the Giants choosing between the Colorado stars, Sanders and cornerback/wide receiver Travis Hunter. Reuter chooses the quarterback. He writes: sSanders might not be the biggest, strongest or fastest passer, but he throws with anticipation from the pocket and can test defenses with his feet when facing man coverage. The Giants have lacked a true leader at the quarterback position for years; Sanders works to make his teammates better and knows what it means to play under the spotlight. I don’t truly know how the Giants feel about Sanders. Picking him here, though, seems like a realistic scenario.

The Titans are hinting at their No. 1 overall NFL Draft pick, and they’re going to screw it up – SB Nation
Selecting Ward is the obvious pick. The clear selection. It’s also absolutely the wrong move, and the Titans are going to screw this up. What will ensue is a spin campaign to talk up Ward, and the Titans desperately try to move away from their now-infamous comment that the team would not pass on a “generational talent” with the No. 1 pick. Actually they’ll pass on two in Abdul Carter and Travis Hunter, instead reaching for arguably the worst quarterback prospect taken with a No. 1 overall pick — maybe ever. None of this is to say that Ward will be a bad NFL quarterback. In fact, there’s every chance he could be quite good. The problem is that you don’t draft “quite good” with the No. 1 pick. You have to find a transformative talent that can turn a franchise around, and Cam Ward simply isn’t it — but this is patently on brand for a Titans team adept at whiffing on skill position players with their early picks.
