Most recent Power Rankings are a mixed bag for LA
The Los Angeles Rams were the only team in the postseason to come close to taking down the Philadelphia Eagles and despite only getting better in free agency LA has seen a mixed-bag when it comes to early NFL Power Rankings. Eric Edholm, the Lead Draft Writer for the NFL, has the Rams ranked as the 10th best team behind the likes of the Minnesota Vikings, the Green Bay Packers, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

This is a tough pill to swallow for a number of reasons. The Vikings may have a plethora of weapons at their disposal but do have a large question mark at the most important position with JJ McCarthy likely starting at quarterback. Jordan Love regressed mightily in his second season as the starter for the Packers and coming out of free agency still does not have a true number one receiver to throw to despite signing Mecole Hardman away from the Kansas City Chiefs. The Buccaneers did sign Haason Reddick to a one year deal to bolster their defense but for the most part are running it back with the same offensive squad they had last year.
Other rankings have the Rams fairing better. Fox Sports David Helman has them at the eighth position and PFF’s Mason Cameron have them ranked ninth.
Collin Cowherd’s Herd Hierarchy had the LA all the way at the second position behind the Eagles.
“I thought the Rams crushed,” Cowherd explained, “Poona Ford defensive line, that was an area of need, and Davante Adams and retain Matthew Stafford. Their defense Thanksgiving and on was arguably the best in the league. Go ask Sam Darnold, sacked nine times. This defense is just getting better every month because they are so young and inexpensive. I put the Rams at two.”
Mina Kimes on her podcast ranked Los Angeles as one of the biggest winners in free agency as well.
“The Los Angeles Rams, who I felt with their moves really pulled away from the NFC West which, of course, they won last year. It is very much an offseason for them focusing on winning this year,” said Kimes.
This biggest snub may just be LA’s chances to win the Super Bowl. According to Fanduel Sportsbook, the Rams have the 10th best odds to hoist the Lombardi Trophy while the San Francisco 49ers have the sixth best odds.
There is still plenty of roster construction to be had with the NFL Draft looming in the future, but early indicators show a mix bag of expectations for the Rams. Some have them as playoff contenders while others are ready to make them Super Bowl favorites. If there is one truth to come out of free agency, LA is once again in a win-now scenario with Stafford on the roster for atleast another season.
