The 2025 NFL Draft has clear-cut top safeties — could one slip to round 2?

Attention is turning to the 2025 NFL Draft with the first wave of free agency slowly coming to a close.

With a third-round compensatory pick, the Miami Dolphins hold three of the draft’s top 100 selections and could benefit from at least two immediate contributors by the end of Day 2. Cornerback, defensive tackle, and guard are obvious needs at pick No. 13, but safety remains another possibility.

According to The Athletic’s Josh Kendall, the Miami Dolphins (holding picks 13 and 48 in the first two rounds), the Atlanta Falcons (15 and 46), the Carolina Panthers (8 and 57), the Seattle Seahawks (18, 50, and 52), and the Cincinnati Bengals (17 and 49) are all planning to meet with South Carolina safety Nick Emmanwori in the coming weeks.

Emmanwori appeared in 37 games over three years at South Carolina, recording 88 tackles, four interceptions, three tackles for loss, and two pick-sixes in 13 games last season. An Associated Press First-Team All-American, he has the talent to be an immediate Day 1 starter in Miami’s defense.

The Dolphins signed safeties Ifeatu Melifonwu and Ashtyn Davis early in free agency. While a top-15 pick may be too rich for a safety, Miami needs to rebuild the position after losing Jevon Holland to the New York Giants. If a top prospect falls to the Dolphins at pick 13, they could consider trading back into the late first or early second round to land one of the draft’s top safeties.
