Could the Cardinals be the most overlooked team in the NFC?

For a franchise that is 106-years-old, the Arizona Cardinals are often as predictable as the sunrise. The Cardinals have won just seven playoff games in those 100-plus years and have a total record of 593 wins, 812 losses, and 41 ties.

Since the NFL realigned in 2002, the Cardinals have won the NFC West title just three times:

  • 2008 when they were 9-7
  • 2009 when they were 10-6
  • 2015 when they were 13-3

If it weren’t for former Rams quarterback Kurt Warner, that would only be one division title in the last 23 seasons.

But with the San Francisco 49ers potentially staring at another down season and the Seattle Seahawks realigning their entire offense this year by trading Geno Smith and DK Metcalf, are the Cardinals potentially the biggest threat to the L.A. Rams in the NFC West?

The Cardinals went 8-9 last season, their second under head coach Jonathan Gannon, which was a vast improvement from going 4-13 with a -125 point differential in 2023. Gannon’s defense improved from 31st to 15th in points allowed and Arizona’s point differential in 2024 was +21.

Now entering the seventh season with Kyler Murray at quarterback, could the Cardinals be poised to earn a wild card berth in the 2025, if not compete for the division title?

Or will they continue to be as predictable as the team that is 0-1 in the playoffs over the last nine seasons?

The Cardinals biggest offseason moves thus far have been signing pass rusher Josh Sweat from the Philadelphia Eagles, as well as defensive tackle Dalvin Tomlinson and linebacker Akeem Davis-Gaither.

The offense doesn’t have many notable changes yet, but does bring back Murray, Marvin Harrison Jr., Trey McBride, James conner, Paris Johnson, Michael Wilson, and Zay Jones.

The Cardinals have a ton of cap space left, but nowhere to really spend it now unless they make some big trade. They are set to pick 16th in the upcoming draft.

So what do you think:

Will the Cardinals improve on their 8-9 record next season?

I know some fans want to wait to see who the 16th pick in a weak first round class is going to be before deciding despite how unlikely it is for one mid-first round pick to make a huge difference as a rookie, but if you had to guess…

Are the Cardinals good or bad?
