Reunion with an old friend for Hilton and Brian Callahan?
As the NFL free agency period continues on, one former Cincinnati Bengals standout is yet to find a new home.
There has been little talk in recent weeks about where slot cornerback Mike Hilton will land. Hilton’s four-year contract with Cincinnati expired after this past season, and the Bengals clearly haven’t pushed hard, if at all, to bring him back.
Could there be a reunion with an old friend in the works?
For The Win’s Corey Woodroof has predicted that Hilton will sign with the Tennessee Titans, who are now coached by former Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan.
The Titans could use an upgrade at the nickel cornerback spot, and Hilton is one of the best in the business. He could follow former Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator Brian Callahan to Tennessee.
There has been some talk about Hilton potentially returning to the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he began his career, but teams like Tennessee or the Indianapolis Colts with former Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo make sense as well.
The door on Hilton returning to Cincinnati hasn’t exactly slammed shut, but the youth movement Al Golden seems to be leading would suggest that Hilton suits up elsewhere in 2025.
In addition, Woodroof predicted the Bengals to land free agent cornerback Stephon Gilmore, who was the 2019 NFL Defensive Player of the Year.
The Bengals need some experience in the cornerback room, and Gilmore could provide plenty of it.
The 34-year-old Gilmore earned a 62.2 defensive grade at Pro Football Focus this past season after starting 16 games (including playoffs) for the 14-win Minnesota Vikings.
While Gilmore could be a nice, likely cheap boost, he plays almost exclusively on the boundary, so he wouldn’t really replace what Hilton brings to the table in the slot.
What do you think of Gilmore joining the Bengals?
