Did the Seahawks do enough to win the NFC West or will they take a step backwards?
The Seattle Seahawks have made a lot of moves in the last week, but even more if you go back to firing Pete Carroll last year. Rams fans, do you think that the Seahawks are better or worse than they were a week ago?
Big Moves
Gone:
QB Geno Smith
WR DK Metcalf
WR Tyler Lockett
OC Ryan Grubb
OLB Dre’Mont Jones
The Seahawks traded Geno Smith to the Raiders for a third and DK Metcalf to the Steelers for a second, while releasing Lockett. The team fired OC Grubb after one season and he went back to college, where he had spent his entire career prior to 2024.
In addition, the team released Jones, their big free agent signing in 2023.
Arrived:
QB Sam Darnold
WR Cooper Kupp
WR Marquez Valdes-Scantling
OC Klint Kubiak
DE DeMarcus Lawrence
The Seahawks signed Darnold to a three-year, $100 million contract with $55 million guaranteed in free agency. There is some familiarity between Darnold and Kubiak, as both were on the 49ers in 2023 with Kubiak serving as the team’s passing game coordinator. Kubiak was the Saints coordinator in 2024.
Seattle also signed former Rams receiver Cooper Kupp to a three-year, $45 million contract after he was released by L.A., two days after adding Valdes-Scantling on a much smaller deal. The Seahawks also added Lawrence to a three-year, $42 million contract after a long career with the Dallas Cowboys.
Better or worse?
The Seahawks finished 10-7 last season, same record as the Rams, but got swept by L.A. and the team has lost a lot of games to the Rams since Sean McVay arrived. Seattle’s answer to McVay was hiring Mike Macdonald to replace Carroll in 2024, a move that has not proven to be good or bad yet, although the defense improved a bit in his first season.
So it should be very important to the Rams whether or not these changes make the Seahawks better or worse next season.
