If they’re ironing out small details, it could mean they’re almost in agreement.
The Cincinnati Bengals are working to build a roster around Joe Burrow that can make a deep playoff run with hopes of reaching the Super Bowl. A major part of that plan involves securing long-term contracts for star wide receivers Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins, the latter of whom was franchise-tagged for the second straight year.
NFL insider Josina Anderson was recently asked on Twitter if she had any updates on the contract situations of Chase, Higgins, or defensive end Trey Hendrickson. Her response was cryptic yet potentially revealing:
“No injury waiver in Chase’s deal,” she replied.
That doesn’t necessarily mean a deal is done, but if they’re negotiating finer details like injury clauses, it could indicate that the major contract figures are already agreed upon—a crucial hurdle in any deal.
It’s widely believed Chase will become the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, surpassing Myles Garrett’s recent $40 million per year deal. If the Bengals and Chase have already settled on the contract’s length and overall value, an agreement might not be ‘too’ far away.
And if Chase’s deal is close, maybe Higgins and Hendrickson’s extensions aren’t far behind.
Fingers crossed!
