Former Dolphin ready to bring leadership and versatility to the Giants’ secondary
The New York Giants made a big addition to their secondary by signing safety Jevón Holland, and the former Miami Dolphins standout couldn’t be more thrilled about his new home.
Holland wasted no time embracing the move to New York, making it clear that the Giants’ rich history played a role in his decision.
“I was super-juiced. I was really excited. I told them to go ahead and let’s get the deal going,” Holland said when he spoke to media via Zoom on Thursday. “Giants have a long history of successful football, and I really wanted to be a part of that, especially in New York.”
One of the added perks of signing with the Giants is the chance to play alongside Kayvon Thibodeaux, his former Oregon teammate. The two played together in 2019, and Holland is looking forward to rekindling that chemistry.
“It’s going to be fun. Every time we’re around each other it’s always laughs,” Holland said. “I’m really looking forward to running that back just like it was in 2019 in Oregon.”
Though he has already made a name for himself in the league, Holland believes his best football is still ahead of him, and he sees the Giants as the perfect place to reach new heights.
“I absolutely think there’s plenty of room left to grow. I’m nowhere near my peak,” he said. “I think the Giants have the exact environment I need and the personnel I need to be able to reach those new heights.”
Holland revealed that he checked in with Xavier McKinney, a former Giants safety, before making his decision, and McKinney only had positive things to say about the organization.
“He had nothing but positive things to say. He said I was going to love it and the place itself; it breeds football and the fan base is great.” Holland said. “He just added to the excitement and reassured me that I made the right choice.”
The Giants have built a promising young secondary, and Holland sees that as a key ingredient for future success.
“That’s a recipe for excellence. It’s a group of guys that are going to be able to build with each other, create a community amongst each other, and rely on each other when we’re out there on the field.”
Despite being just 25 years old, Holland believes he has developed the leadership skills necessary to help guide the Giants’ defense.
“Even though I am young, and usually young guys don’t have that much experience leading, I feel like I’ve been put in high-intensity pressure situations to be able to grow and flourish and have to lead,” he said. “I feel like I have those qualities to be able to lead a group of men even though I am still only 25.”
