Is Milum a guard or tackle in the NFL?
The 2025 offensive line class is definitely an unconventional one.
It’s relatively light on pure offensive tackles, as well as pure interior linemen. However, there are a number of players who either could play both at the NFL level or who played tackle in college who will be guards in the NFL.
Figuring which of those applies to West Virginia’s Wyatt Milum might be the most complicated part of his evaluation. On the field, Milum is a tough, dependable blocker, but does he have the traits to stay at offensive tackle in the NFL?
His play strength and toughness could certainly appeal to the New York Giants, and they might also not care whether his best position is tackle or guard. Could that put him firmly on their radar?

Strengths
Best traits
- Play strength
- Competitive toughness
- Run blocking
Wyatt Milum is a powerful and highly competitive offensive lineman. Milum has good size at 6-foot-6, 313 pounds, with solid thickness in his upper and lower halves.
While Milum isn’t a mammoth offensive lineman, he has impressive power and play strength. Milum is easily able to generate movement along the offensive line as a run blocker. He does a very good job of uncoiling when he strikes with leverage, getting defenders back on their heels. He’s able to dig defenders out of holes and sustain his blocks for as long as necessary.
That play strength also shows up as a pass protector, as he’s able to control power rushers with ease. His strength also allows him to lose slowly or offer second efforts to control speed rushers if he’s beaten initially.
Milum primarily uses a vertical set in his pass protection. He isn’t a graceful athlete, but a functional one on the edge. He doesn’t have the speed normally associated with NFL tackles, but he’s able to get into position against even elite athletes.
He offers great competitive toughness and is willing to do whatever is necessary to not lose a rep or give his quarterback as much time as possible. He’s constantly looking for work and tenacious in sustaining his blocks.
Weaknesses
Worst traits
- Leverage
- Lower body flexibility
Milum’s weaknesses as a blocker appear to be linked to a lack of flexibility in his lower half.
He isn’t a natural knee bender, and while he can have solid leverage to start the play, his knees can quickly straighten. He can be prone to standing up over the course of longer reps or in response to athletic rushers off the edge. In either case, he tends to bend at the hips to compensate and ultimately lunge at defenders.
There are also instances where Milum is playing on his toes, on the edges of his feet, or has his heels come off the ground as he attempts to bend his knees. That could suggest limited ankle flexibility which limits his range of motion.
That stiffness can also lead to his base narrowing and feet coming together. The combination of a narrowed base and waist bending can lead to compromising his impressive play strength as well as his balance.
And as mentioned above, Milum also relies on a shuffling vertical set in pass protection. That can make him vulnerable to speed from wide alignments or sudden inside moves.

Projection
Wyatt Milum projects as a developmental offensive lineman who could potentially move to guard at the NFL level.
Milum’s draft stock could vary wildly from team to team. Some teams could view Milum as a potential starting offensive tackle, while others could view him as a candidate to move inside to guard. Others still may view him as more of a utility back-up with a high floor. It will likely come down to their specific needs, blocking scheme, and their measurable thresholds.
Milum is almost the definition of a “blue collar” lineman. And while he might start his career as a depth piece, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see him refuse to give up a starting job if he gets his chance.
Does he fit the Giants?
