Ahkello Witherspoon headlines list of still-available Rams free agents
The dust is starting to settle on what is commonly called the “first round” of NFL free agency. The Los Angeles Rams have worked to re-sign four of their own players so far while adding additional talent from elsewhere around the league.
How do things currently sit for LA’s 2025 free agent class? Let’s summarize who has landed where and who still may be available, according to OverTheCap.
Re-signing their own
LA has re-signed four of their own free agents. They inked deals with LT Alaric Jackson and WR Tutu Atwell before the start of the NFL’s legal tampering period. Soon after the free agent bell rang, they also retained the services of backup QB Jimmy Garoppolo. The Rams also applied a tender to exclusive rights free agent C Dylan McMahon, who was a sixth-round pick by the Philadelphia Eagles last year.
Here’s the group of returning players with their reported contract values:
Alaric Jackson, LT: $19.25M average per year (APY)
Tutu Atwell, WR: $10.0M APY
Jimmy Garoppolo, QB: $4.5M APY
Dylan McMahon, C: $960k APY
New faces coming to LA
The Rams signed the following outside free agents. Davante Adams was released by the New York Jets and therefore does not factor into the league’s compensatory pick formula. He was also available to sign prior to the start of the legal tampering period.
Davante Adams, WR: $22.0M APY
Poona Ford, DT: $9.2M APY
Coleman Shelton, iOL: Not yet disclosed
Free agent losses to other teams:
LA has lost four players to other teams so far in free agency. They also traded guard Jonah Jackson to the Chicago Bears in order to dump the contract he signed last spring. Third-year corner Tre Tomlinson was released and subsequently signed by the NFC West rival San Francisco 49ers.
The Rams are tentatively set to receive a fringe sixth or seventh round pick for Michael Hoecht signing with the Buffalo Bills, though additional signings by Los Angeles can void this return draft capital. The compensatory selection for Bobby Brown signing with the Carolina Panthers is likely to be offset by the Rams bringing in Ford from the Los Angeles Chargers.
Similar to Tomlinson, Robinson is also headed to San Francisco. The 49ers needed more options at receiver after trading Deebo Samuel to the Washington Commanders.
TE Hunter Long is joining former Rams front office member James Gladstone with the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Michael Hoecht, OLB: 7.0M APY
Bobby Brown, DT: $7.0M APY
Demarcus Robinson, WR: $4.75M APY (reported)
Hunter Long, TE: $2.5M APY (reported)
Which Rams free agents are still available?
These are the Rams’ unsigned free agents according to OTC.
On The Athletic Football Show’s five-hour day one free agency live stream, Rams beat writer Jourdan Rodrigue joined and mentioned that the market for cornerback Ahkello Witherspoon is stronger this offseason than it was last year. If LA wants to bring him back, they will likely have competition to do so.
