Will there be any moves today?

The second day of free agency was very productive and filled a lot of the wish list needs for many long suffering Vikings fans.

We got a new veteran center who excels at pass blocking and a new guard with lots of upside (hopefully).

We got a new veteran defensive tackle who excels at pass rushing and possibly another veteran defensive tackle who also excels at pass rushing.

There still is a lot of work to do specifically at the backup QB position. It seems like there will be no competition for the #1 spot this year although that could change if they bring in someone like Aaron Rodgers or Kirk Cousins. I do not believe Cousins wants to ride the pine at this stage of his career. Anyone else they bring in would be the backup.

Other positions that I’d like to see some additions are safety (especially if Smith does not return – actually even if he does return), linebacker, defensive line (yes we still need more), cornerback, a third string tight end, another running back, and another wide receiver. Nailor is kind of meh and after that it is a bunch of jags (just another guy).

What other free agents will they target or do you want them to target?

Ranking the best available 2025 NFL free agents

2025 NFL free agency tracker: Updates on top 100 free agents, including Joey Bosa and DeAndre Hopkins

Here are some of the players I like …
Jedrick Wills OT 26
Dillon Radunz OT 27
Mac Jones QB 26
Elijah Moore WR 25
Keenan Allen WR 33
Rico Dowdle RB 27
JK Dobbins RB 26
Azeez Ojulari EDGE 25
Levi Onwuzurike DT 27
Clelin Ferrell DL 28
Dre’mont Jones DL 28
Maliek Collins DT
Jamin Davis LB 26
Asante Samuel Jr CB 25
Mike Hilton CB 31
Julian Blackmon S 26

.

Right now, overthecap has the Vikings with this cap space for 2025 & 2026 which does not include Kelly or Fries and Hargrave is not announced officially yet.

2025: $49,261,377
2026: $44,184,678

Excellent cap work so far. The team should have about 30M left in 2025 and 15-20 in 2026 once the three signings are official.

Maybe we will only see one year deals from this point on?

Kwesi also could perform some trades. One is listed below regarding Bradbury to the Falcons. I saw another speculation about the Vikings trading for Sauce Gardener which would be a surprise. I wonder if they can trade Addison for a 2nd round pick plus a later round pick and then sign Cooper Kupp? That would be nice.

Brett Favre Had Simple Advice for Aaron Rodgers if Vikings Try to Sign Him

Aaron Rodgers is still looking for a new home after being released by the New York Jets. The 41-year-old QB might have the possibility to pull off the same career path Brett Favre had, as the Minnesota Vikings have been rumored to be interested in Rodgers.

Favre, who Rodgers sat behind in Green Bay before eventually taking over the Packers, played for the Jets and then the Vikings before calling it quits after the 2010 season. Rodgers went from the Packers to the Jets and only needs to play for the Vikings next to complete the Favre arc.

Favre had some simple advice for Rodgers if the Vikings do come calling with an offer.

“By all means sign with them,” Favre said this week while on Fox News. “They’ve got a really good football team. They’re loaded at pretty much every position.”

Vikings Linked to $75 Million QB as J.J. McCarthy’s Backup

J.J. McCarthy now appears the overwhelmingly likely choice to start Week 1, after Sam Darnold, Daniel Jones and Nick Mullens departed for the Seattle Seahawks, Indianapolis Colts and Jacksonville Jaguars, respectively. But the 22-year-old McCarthy needs a viable veteran backup QB after a rookie season deleted by injury, and Brett Rypien is the only other signal-caller under contract.

There are a handful of potential options still available in free agency, though Darren Wolfson of KSTP reported on the Tuesday, March 11 edition of “SKOR North” that several in the Vikings organization hold one specific player in high regard.

“There’s still people in this front office going back years that have been fans of Marcus Mariota,” Wolfson said.

Note: I would not mind Mariota but why wouldn’t the Commandos try to keep him?

2025 NFL free agency team-by-team grades: Vikings, Patriots, Bears earn high marks after Day 2

Minnesota Vikings: A-

Key additions: OG Will Fries, CB Isaiah Rodgers, C Ryan Kelly, DT Jonathan Allen, DT Javon Hargrave

Key re-signings: RB Aaron Jones (Read more), CB Byron Murphy

Key departures: QB Sam Darnold (Seahawks), S Camryn Bynum (Colts), QB Daniel Jones (Colts)

The Vikings left Day 1 with a “D” grade from us, but Tuesday was all about Minnesota. Kwesi Adofo-Mensah found a way to keep cornerback Byron Murphy in house on Monday night, then upgraded the trenches with former Colts Will Fries and Ryan Kelly on the offensive side, and a couple of veterans in Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave on defense. With Daniel Jones now a Colt, it looks like J.J. McCarthy is going to be Minnesota’s QB1. He better be ready to live up to those first-round expectations, because the Vikings are doing a nice job building a team around him.

NFL free agency winners and losers on Day 2: Vikings, Daniel Jones up; C.J. Stroud down

WINNERS

Minnesota Vikings: Out from under Kirk Cousins’ contract, Minnesota had money to spend and focused on the trenches. Former quarterback Sam Darnold was sacked nine times in the Vikings’ playoff loss to the Rams. Since then, Kevin O’Connell has been focused on beefing up the interior of the offensive line so it can hold up for a full season. The Vikes did that by signing two former Colts, center Ryan Kelly and guard Will Fries. On the D-line, Jonathan Allen came aboard to shore up the interior push — and it appears Javon Hargrave’s en route to Minnesota, too. Bottom line: Minnesota’s looking to build a physically tougher team around second-year pro J.J. McCarthy, who will likely become the starting quarterback following the departures of both Darnold and Daniel Jones.

7:56 a.m. — What’s on deck today for the Vikings?

Notice how ESPN’s Kevin Seifert is among the insiders who aren’t quite ready to cross Aaron Rodgers off Minnesota’s list? Interesting.

Don’t shoot the messenger!

Garrett Bradbury trade suggested as possibility after recent Vikings news

Minnesota currently only has four picks in this year’s draft, and if nothing else, Bradbury is now a tradeable asset to add a draft pick. During an appearance on SKOR North’s “Minnesota Sports with Mackey & Judd” on Tuesday, KSTP’s Darren Wolfson talked about that prospect.

“On Garrett Bradbury, I imagine now, they are going to try and trade him. His former college position coach [is] in Atlanta. The Falcons have this obvious need at the center position.

To me, what’s even more fascinating about the Bradbury situation [is that] his representation did the Kelly deal. So what do they know?”

Wolfson went on to speculate that Bradbury’s agent may know where he could be going in the wake of doing Kelly’s deal with the Vikings. Maybe to a place that will award him with a contract extension, and to a place he’d like to go to (like Atlanta, where his college offensive line coach, Dwayne Ledford, is the offensive line coach, and they lost their starting center in free agency?).
