The veteran cornerback is leaving Philadelphia.
Darius Slay is indeed signing with the Pittsburgh Steelers after being designated as a post-June 1 cut by the Philadelphia Eagles, according to a report from NFL insider Adam Schefter.
His one-year contract is said to be worth $10 million. Fully guaranteed.
Slay to the Steelers was first reported earlier this week but there was some pushback on that development being a done deal. Now we know he’s really leaving the team he spent the last five seasons with.
Neither the Eagles nor Slay seemed to close the door on a potential return to Philly when news of the post-June 1 cut was first reported. But the feeling here is that it was always in the Eagles’ best interest to move on.
Slay had a good season in 2024 but betting on him to play well again in his age 35 season doesn’t seem like the best bet to make. Especially when the Eagles can move forward with their younger cornerbacks and give Kelee Ringo a prime opportunity to start in 2025.
Slay will always be appreciated in Philly for his contributions to the Eagles’ Super Bowl LIX success.
In Pittsburgh, Slay is notably reunited with his former defensive coordinator on the Detroit Lions (Steelers defensive coordinator Teryl Austin) and a former high-ranking Eagles executive (Steelers assistant general manager Andy Weidl).
