The Miami Dolphins could be in play for the former Los Angeles Chargers pass rusher.
John Bosa played defensive end for the Miami Dolphins from 1987 through 1990 before injuries led to a shortened career for the team’s first-round pick out of Boston College. Fast forward to 2025, and the Dolphins could have an opportunity to see the Bosa legacy expand in South Florida. According to The Athletic’s Michael Silver, the Dolphins have made an offer to free agent pass rusher Joey Bosa, John’s son.
The San Francisco 49ers, for whom Joey’s brother Nick plays, have also made an offer to Bosa. The Los Angeles Chargers released Joey last week, making him available for any team to sign.
Bosa was the 2016 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year and has been selected to five Pro Bowls in his nine-year career. He was the third overall pick in 2016, selected by the then-San Diego Chargers. He has 72 career sacks, 343 tackles, three forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. He played in 14 games last season, starting nine times.
Adding Bosa would likely give Miami a dynamic pass rush. Bosa would join Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, and Chop Robinson in the outside linebacker position group. Chubb missed all of the 2024 season after sustaining an ACL tear late in the 2023 season. Phillips returned from a 2023 Achilles tear only to sustain an ACL tear, shortening his 2024 season. Chubb, Miami’s 2024 first-round draft pick, started the season slowly but recorded six sacks over the final 10 games of the year.
