The Miami Dolphins lose a starting offensive lineman in free agency.
The Miami Dolphins will not be able to bring back guard Robert Jones in 2025. As the first day of the NFL’s negotiating period – also known as the legal tampering period – closes late Monday night, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the Dallas Cowboys had reached a one-year contract with Jones. The deal is worth up to $4.75 million, according to the report.
Jones, an undrafted free agent signed by the Dolphins in 2021, started all 17 games for Miami in 2024. He played in 49 games, with 30 starts, in his four seasons in South Florida. He primarily saw action at left guard.
The Dolphins signed Jones to a one-year contract last year after not exercising his restricted free agent tender. He also played tackle for the Dolphins before setting in as the starting left guard.
Miami agreed to terms with two offensive linemen on Monday, adding guard James Daniels and tackle/guard Larry Borom. The signings will likely become official on Wednesday when the new league year – and the free agency signing period – begins at 4 p.m. Eastern.
