Rams sign Jimmy Garoppolo, Poona Ford, and Coleman Shelton to open free agency
It’s been an active start to free agency for the Los Angeles Rams.
After signing veteran receiver Davante Adams, who was released by the New York Jets and available early, LA inked deals with Jimmy Garoppolo, Coleman Shelton, and Poona Food. The Rams are filling roster needs in free agency in order to keep all options on the table during next month’s NFL Draft.
Here’s how users on social media platform X reacted to LA’s active first day:
Jimmy Garoppolo, QB
One-year deal worth up to $13M
Garoppolo returns to the Rams as the backup to Matthew Stafford. He impressed in the Week 18 finale against the Seattle Seahawks’ starters while Los Angeles was resting key players ahead of the playoffs. Reportedly, the veteran had options to compete for a starting job elsewhere but elected to return to the Rams under Sean McVay.
Jimmy Garoppolo got 1 yr/11m? Backup QB gotta be the best job in sports.

Coleman Shelton, C
Terms not yet disclosed
Shelton spent last season with the Chicago Bears, who have spent the early going of the offseason reinventing the interior of their offensive line. Chicago also landed the top center on the free agent market in Drew Dalman most recently of the Atlanta Falcons. Shelton has experience and chemistry with Stafford. Is he coming in to compete with second-year center Beaux Limmer, or simply offering depth and mentorship?
A couple of coaches with McVay ties were interested in adding Shelton, FWIW. Worked well in communication with Stafford. Competition at C incoming? Shelton can also back up guard spots. https://t.co/LRMwCNvrKc

Honestly like the signing of Coleman Shelton for the Rams.
He’s a familiar face in that building with starting experience the last two years at center. He may compete with Beaux Limmer, but at the very least, adds much needed interior depth.

Coleman Shelton and Drew Dalman are basically the same dude at pass pro but Dalman is an elite run blocker and that sets him apart. pic.twitter.com/topmuRga5d

Raise your hand if you had Coleman Shelton as a day 1 signing for anyone

Poona Ford, DT
Three-year deal worth $30M
The Rams get their run-stopping interior defensive lineman in Ford. He will likely replace Bobby Brown in this role while Brown is expected to find greener pastures in free agency. Ford had a breakout season last year with the Los Angeles Chargers under Jim Harbaugh and defensive coordinator Jesse Minter. He’ll spell Braden Fiske, who struggles in the run game, on obvious rushing downs.
Top tier run stuffer for the Rams, Poona Ford is a stud. That’s a lot of change but he’s so good. https://t.co/1akxjOxeBh

Rams picking up Davante Adams and Poona Ford, is sneaky good.

Nothing has upset me more than the Chargers letting Poona Ford walk. This makes 0 sense to me

Absolutely stoked to have Poona Ford on this defensive line.
Giff Smith and Chris Shula will get the most out of him as a pass-rusher on top of what he adds as a run-stopper. https://t.co/PhD0IAwXdA pic.twitter.com/x0VmR01NZK
