Looks like the veteran cornerback might be finishing his NFL career elsewhere in 2025.

Despite leaving the door open to return to the Eagles in 2025, it looks like veteran cornerback Darius Slay could instead be on the move and heading to Pittsburgh. Slay is expected to sign with the Steelers, according to reports. However, nothing is official and the Eagles haven’t actually released him yet.

Slay said there were no hard feelings last week when the Eagles announced they were releasing him with a post-June 1 designation, and understands it’s all a business. Still, he was clear that he had one year left in him out on the field, and did admit he preferred to stay in Philly if the money and situation was right.

The Steelers have been making a lot of moves early in free agency, including trading for D.K. Metcalf. Adding Slay would be a big help to some of the younger talent they have in the backfield — he’s an avid mentor —, and will be a good addition for their push to get guys like Cam Heyward and T.J. Watt a ring — which seems like a reach for a team without a QB, but they are at least trying.

Slay suffered various injuries throughout the 2024 season that limited him to playing just 66.7% of the Eagles’ defensive snaps. And with young guys like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean stepping up big during their rookie seasons, it’s time for the Eagles to look elsewhere. They do have Kelee Ringo under contract, but Isaiah Rodgers used his one season in Philly to lock up a two-year deal with the Minnesota Vikings. And the Eagles also reportedly released James Bradberry.

So, yet again, Philadelphia needs some more help in the secondary.
