Von Miller was cut from the Buffalo Bills after two seasons
After losing Aaron Donald to retirement last season, the Los Angeles Rams opted to rebuild their once feared veteran defensive line through the draft. It was a different approach to how they had done in the past where they would have preferred finding a savvy pass rusher past his prime with some juice left to give.
Luckily for the Rams the strategy worked. Headlined by a rising star in Jared Verse, LA now has one of the most exciting lines in the NFL with talent ready to be developed into something special this coming season.
Will recent headlines stray Les Snead back to his old ways? Von Miller was cut by the Buffalo Bills Sunday morning after a subpar stint with the AFC East champions joining Joey Bosa, Josh Sweat and Khalil Mack on the open market. Myles Garrett was a potential trade target, that was until the Cleveland Browns made him the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history with $123.5 million fully-guaranteed contract.

There are other needs on the roster.
Cooper Kupp’s eventual separation still looms in the near future leaving a need at the receiver position. The secondary could use some upgrades as well, especially at the cornerback position after getting burned several times last season for huge explosives. Some firepower at the tight end position could make Sean McVay’s offense work again. Outside of the need for a run stuffer on the defensive line, adding a premier pass rusher would be less impactful than some of the other obvious needs the team has.
If the price is right though, why not?

The NFC West is once again one of the weaker divisions in football, especially after the departure of Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third round pick in this year’s draft.
Adding a free agent pass rusher could wreak havoc within in the division that is headlined by Brock Purdy (who the San Francisco 49ers don’t even want to pay), Kyler Murray (who has been destroyed countless times by Donald), and maybe Sam Darnold (who was sacked nine times in the NFC Wild Card game). The path to victory in the NFC West is through the play of the defensive line.
Could one of the top free agents be enticed to join LA on a team-friendly deal with the potential to chase a ring? Mack, Bosa, and Haason Reddick are the first names that come to mind on players that might be willing to take a one-year contract to chase a potential Super Bowl.
Miller could also be a cheap option as a rotational piece on the line—that is if the relationship between the front office and him hasn’t soured too much after he decided to depart from LA during contract negotiations in favor of joining the Buffalo Bills following the 2021 Super Bowl victory.
Regardless of what Los Angeles does in regards to their defensive line, it will be interesting to see how Snead and McVay choose to spend their free cap space this offseason.
