The Athletic has Davante Adams as LA’s top target in free agency
On Wednesday, Les Snead said Cooper Kupp’s return to the Los Angeles Rams would be unlikely. Rams fans have known that for a while about Kupp, so LA will be left to find another high-end target to pair with Puka Nacua. The Athletic’s Mike Jones might have the All-Pro solution to that problem.
Jones predicts the Rams will sign former New York Jets wide receiver Davante Adams in free agency in his March 6 column:
“With the Rams working to trade Cooper Kupp, Sean McVay and Matthew Stafford will need another target to pair with Puka Nacua. Adams is now available after the Jets released him on Tuesday. The six-time Pro Bowl wideout still has plenty left in the tank, and McVay boasts the creativity needed to maximize Adams’ skill set.”
Adams absolutely has plenty in the tank after notching his fifth straight 1,000-yard campaign since the 2020 campaign last season. Most impressive is that Adams reached the mark on a pair of dysfunctional teams—the Raiders and Jets—before finishing his odd year with New York.
The six-time Pro Bowler and two-time NFL receiving touchdowns leader would be an ideal destination for Adams. Not only do the Rams have a need at wideout, but Adams grew up and attended college in northern California. He’d be right at home with any of the Californian teams if he opts to sign with one—as long as it isn’t the stupid 49ers!
With the Rams retaining Matthew Stafford and leaving Aaron Rodgers on the open market, who knows if Adams would consider LA. Adams and Rodgers are thought of as a package deal, but if the WR wants to ring-chase at this stage of his career, he must ditch his buddy.
Rodgers might be headed to a crappy Giants team that is no closer to a championship than the Jets were last season. The Rams offer Adams one of the best chances at a Super Bowl, unless he would much rather take the easy route and sign with the Chiefs.
