The Giants seem to have no plan at the quarterback position

From trading for Matthew Stafford to trading up to the No. 1 overall draft pick, the Giants don’t have a clear path to get a QB this offseason.

As fun as it is to celebrate the Eagles’ successes, it’s almost equally as fun to celebrate their NFC East rivals’ misfortunes.

Giants GM Joe Schoen famously talked about how they couldn’t pay Saquon Barkley when they had money spent elsewhere, including at the quarterback position. They were paying Daniel Jones — who they then released near the end of the season because he was playing so poorly. They essentially gave up Barkley for Jones and then had to give up Jones because that’s the deal they shouldn’t have done in the first place.

Now, the Giants are in the market for their next quarterback, and reports following the NFL Combine indicate that Schoen was this close to trading for Matthew Stafford. Apparently the organization hit all the numbers to nab Stafford — they even hired his brother-in-law, Chad Hall to be their assistant QB coach —, but just when Schoen had his guy, the QB decided to sign with the Rams for less money to stay in Los Angeles. That’s gotta hurt.

So now the Giants have just a week before free agency to figure out what they want to do, and one of their options appears to be trading up in the NFL Draft to get the Titans’ No. 1 overall pick.

Notably, the fact that the Giants initially went for Stafford, who clearly has only a couple years left in the league, and then turned their focus on drafting a top QB prospect, lends one to believe that Joe Schoen has no clear plan for the team in 2025. This should make for an interesting offseason.
