Dream scenarios for Rams offseason

Dream scenarios for Rams offseason
Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

What’s the best case scenario for the Rams?

With the offseason just starting to heat up I couldn’t help but imagine what the Los Angeles Rams would look like by Week 1. There are the reasonable scenarios where Les Snead keeps his draft picks and continues to build through the draft responsibly.

There is also a world where Snead reverts back to his old ways and trades away his draft capital for proven talent. Regardless what may happen, here are my (very unlikely) dream scenarios for the Rams 2025 offseason.

Aaron Donald comes out of retirement to give it another go

Donald doesn’t appear to have any plans to come out of retirement but how awesome would it be to see him paired up along side the most recent Defensive Rookie of the Year and the rest of the Rams talented young defensive line? With Braden Fiske and Donald causing havoc in the middle of the line and Jared Verse literally lifting 300lb+ men off their feet, the crew would absolutely create havoc for opposing quarterbacks. The former 3x Defensive Player of the Year would finally have enough talent surrounding him to negate the countless double and triple teams he faced in his prime and makes you wonder how much more of a game wrecker he could have been if LA invested their draft picks on the defensive line. That’s a scary thought.

If not Donald give me Myles Garrett

You know what’s another scary thought? Putting a prime Garrett in this current mix. The Cleveland Browns don’t appear to be shopping him even after the former Defensive Player of the Year requested a change of scenery from his team. It would likely take a lot of draft capital to entice Cleveland’s front office to trade Garrett away but they are desperate with one of the worst contracts in NFL history on their books until 2028 (Deshaun Watson’s 5-year $230,000,000 fully guaranteed robbery). Verse may have reminded Snead how important a first round draft pick can be, however, a big name that could be very marketable for LA may just make him switch to his old ways.

LA moves up in the draft to get TE Tyler Warren

The Rams are a better team when Tyler Higbee is on the field which is why Sean McVay announced on Monday that the team would be running it back with their veteran tight end. In my dream scenario though, Higbee would be playing a reserved role to the most talented tight end in the 2025 draft, Tyler Warren. The Penn State tight end will likely go in the top-10 and be too expensive for the Rams to move up and grab but the thought of pairing him up with Matthew Stafford and McVay give me chills. Warren can run a wildcat offense which would open a whole new chapter in McVay’s play calling and his 6’6’’ frame would give Stafford a redzone target to exploit opposing defenses. They may even be able to run their own version of the tush-push with Warren under center.

The Rams land a New York Jets receiver

No, I’m not talking about Devante Adams, I’m talking about Garrett Wilson. There are a few reasons this would be more of a dream and less likely a real scenario. Wilson is still on his rookie deal and will only cost $1.1 million against the cap in 2025 and is one of, if not the most, talented weapons on New York’s roster. The asking price would be astronomical with his offensive output over the last three years in the league (279 receptions, 3249 yards) but there have been some speculation about his relationship with the team following the Aaron Rodgers fallout. Wilson has recently been open to an extension with the team but the Jets are far from contenders and have others on the roster to pay—what better way to jump start a rebuild with a big trade? Putting Wilson next to Puka Nacua would be a hard ask for any defense in the league to guard against and would be quite the upgrade over an againg Cooper Kupp.

And speaking of Kupp…

Regardless of the numbers (or lack thereof) that Kupp has been able to put together since his triple-crown season it is hard to see him in any uniform that isn’t LA. McVay is still open to his return but it appears the front office is not on the same page. If a trade partner cannot be found then it is likely that he will be released from the team. There is a scenario where Kupp takes a huge pay cut to stay with Stafford for the short-term and retire in the horns, but at the moment it is just wishful thinking.
