After helping the Eagles to their second Super Bowl title, Saquon Barkley now cashes in on the most-lucrative deal for a running back in league history.
On Tuesday afternoon, history was made for the “Running Backs Matter” crowd.
Per ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter, former Giants and current Eagles running back Saquon Barkley has been given a new two-year, $41.2 million contract extensions that makes him the league’s highest-paid running back in NFL history and the first back to ever make over $20 million per year.
It’s a massive pay day for Barkley, who was arguably the biggest catalyst in the Eagles’ Super Bowl run where he finished with the most rushing yards in a single season (regular and postseason) in NFL history with 2.504.

During the regular season, Barkley rushed for 2,005 yards which ranks him eighth all time. He added 499 yards (127.5 per game) through the team’s three playoff games, including scoring five touchdowns.
Will Barkley’s 2024 season lead to the resurgence of the running back market? Only time will tell, but congratulations to Barkley who finally gets his big pay day after battling through some ups and downs during his time as a Giant.
