Philadelphia has their Doug Nussmeier replacement.
The Philadelphia Eagles are hiring Bowling Green head coach Scot Loeffler as their new quarterbacks coach, according to an official announcement from Bowling Green State University.
The 50-year-old Loeffler replaces Doug Nussmeier, who recently left Philly to become the New Orleans Saints’ offensive coordinator on Kellen Moore’s coaching staff.
Loeffler was a quarterback at Michigan before shoulder injuries ended his playing career. He quickly transitioned to the coaching ranks. Here’s a snapshot of his experience:

- 2000-2001 — Central Michigan quarterbacks coach
- 2002-2007 — Michigan quarterbacks coach
- 2008 — Detroit Lions quarterbacks coach

- 2011 — Temple offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach
- 2012 — Auburn offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach
- 2013-2015 — Virginia Tech offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach
- 2016-2017 — Boston College offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach
- 2018 — Boston College deputy head coach offense/offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach
- 2019-2024 — Bowling Green head coach
As you can see, Loeffler doesn’t lack experience coaching quarterbacks (though mostly at the college level) and being involved in running an offense.
On the first point, Loeffler was a teammate of Tom Brady’s before being involved in coaching him. Brady seemingly holds Loeffler in high regard:
“Scot is a tremendous teacher who loves the game of football. His passion, attention to detail, and his leadership skills will enable him to run a championship program at Bowling Green.”
Loeffler also notably coached Tim Tebow at Florida.
On the second point, the Eagles aren’t just hiring Loeffler to have him directly work with Jalen Hurts. He’ll also be tasked with contributing ideas to the overall offense, which seems especially important with first-time play-caller Kevin Patullo taking over as offensive coordinator.
All told, this seems like a pretty interesting hire by the Eagles. Cool how they were able to hire an experienced college football head coach to be a position coach for them.
