Could the Rams get involved with the Myles Garrett trade rumors?
The top player on the trade block is not Matthew Stafford and it’s not Cooper Kupp, but is instead edge rusher Myles Garrett. Though the Cleveland Browns keep telling the media that they won’t even listen to trade offers, the edge rusher insists that he won’t sign an extension in Cleveland and that he never wants to play for the Browns again.
This is according to Mary Kay Cabot, often cited as the top beat reporter for the Browns, writing on Wednesday that Garrett is ‘not open to’ an extension in Cleveland.
Should the Los Angeles Rams be talking to the Browns about a deal?

Of all the teams to try, the Rams would make the most sense. Even if Jared Verse is one of the top young edge rushers in the NFL, he’s not Myles Garrett and neither is Byron Young. If any team could move the needle, it’s the one that has a budding front-seven that could become the best in the NFL with Garrett and a GM who loves to give away first round picks for proven talent.
Just as the Rams prepare to part with Kupp, and potentially Stafford, Garrett would represent the next evolution of an L.A. football superstar.
And the Rams have had many of the best pass rushers in NFL history:
- Aaron Donald
- Deacon Jones
- Jack Youngblood
- Merlin Olsen
- Kevin Greene
And so on.
Garrett is only one season away from probably passing Donald for career sacks. When his career is over, he could have more sacks than any player in Rams history.
One of the interesting wrinkles to any negotiations that would happen between Cleveland and L.A. is the fact that the Browns biggest need is at quarterback. If there is a way to get Stafford on the Browns and Garrett on the Rams, it would seem to make sense for both teams. The problem is their contracts and dead cap hits and the salary cap for each franchise, but the NFL has worked around tougher roadblocks in the past.
Losing Stafford would and will be a blow if it happens. Losing Stafford but getting Myles Garrett could also give the Rams the best pass rushing front in the NFL next season.
And he certainly would sign an extension in L.A., which he says he won’t do in Cleveland.
