Report: Colts QB Anthony Richardson to work out with reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen this offseason

To become the best, sometimes you can learn a thing or two from the best…. and Richardson is reportedly taking advantage of a work out opportunity this offseason.

According to NFL Network’s Cameron Wolfe, Indianapolis Colts soon-to-be third-year quarterback Anthony Richardson is extra motivated to win the upcoming expected starting quarterback competition outright—and will even be working out with Buffalo Bills’ 2024 NFL MVP quarterback Josh Allen at some point this offseason:

“But talking with Richardson and his team, they are not surprised by [the expected quarterback competition] nor are they bothered by it,” said Wolfe on Richardson’s offseason and expectation to win the job with gusto. “They’ve been motivated this offseason, going into Year 3 to get after it. He’s been working out since January 20th in Jacksonville with his quarterbacks coaches Will Hewlett, Tom Gormerly, and Chris Hess, the mechanics coach.”

“One thing to watch, he’s also going to work out with Josh Allen I’m told this offseason. Josh Allen went through some mechanical changes early in his career that helped him evolve into the MVP that we just saw.”

It was reported in mid-January that Richardson would work with Hess this offseason.

Allen has previously worked with Hess in the recent past, who helped improve the Bills’ All-Pro’s throwing mechanics, with Hess’s sports movement analysis company Biometrik. Therefore, with Richardson also utilizing Hess this early offseason, it’s not shocking to see the pair of talented NFL passers eventually connect for some workouts this offseason.

It gets even more interesting though because Richardson, as a dynamic dual-threat passer, has often been compared to a young Josh Allen, who had to improve his own initial accuracy deficiencies throwing the football—but still possessed the elite athletic ability and upside to clearly still dream upon.

In fact, despite Richardson’s surprising two-game benching near midseason for the infamous ‘tap-out,’ Allen came to the young quarterback’s aid—still offering high praise publicly for the former Colts’ 2023 4th overall pick’s immense potential (via ThePatMcAfee Show):

Now the highly athletic pairing will get to see each other up close, and if all goes well and according to plan, perhaps Richardson can learn a thing or two from the NFL’s reigning MVP by picking his brain a bit and better understanding the Bills superstar’s workout/practice habits.
