The Miami Dolphins have a budget of $279.2 million

The salary cap for the 2025 NFL season has officially been set.

Teams were notified Thursday that the salary cap for the upcoming season is set at $279.2 million. This marks a $23.8 million increase over last year. Clubs were given a projected range of $277.5 million to $281.5 million a few weeks ago, but they can now confidently move forward with offseason plans, thanks to the official number.

Over The Cap had been projecting a salary cap of $279.5 million, which left the Miami Dolphins with just over $700,000 in available space. While this news will slightly cut available space, the front office is already focused on clearing cap space.

The Dolphins released running back Raheem Mostert, tight end Durham Smythe, and cornerback Kendall Fuller to free up roughly $8 million in space. On top of that, Miami is freeing up another $14 million because left tackle Terron Armstead agreed to restructure his contract as he contemplated retirement, which has not yet been reflected in Over The Cap projections.

With free agency set to begin on March 12, the front office will use the next two weeks to finalize its strategy. The Dolphins have only 47 players under contract, limited cap space, and 10 draft picks, so the front office must get creative and leverage the waiver wire to fill out the 90-man roster.
