Could Tom Brady and the Raiders beat the Giants in the Stafford Derby?
The buzz all day Thursday, at least from those who weren’t discussing the Jordan Schultz-Ian Rapoport reporter beef, was about the reality of the New York Giants’ interest in acquiring quarterback Matthew Stafford from the Los Angeles Rams.
The similarly quarterback-needy Las Vegas Raiders might have other ideas.
A report Thursday from the Las Vegas Review-Journal indicated that “the Raiders and his [Stafford’s] camp have found common ground on what a potential new contract could look like.”
The report also said that “It’s now about coming to terms with the Rams on a trade package.”
There is also speculation that, perhaps not surprisingly, Stafford and his family see Las Vegas as a preferable location to New York/New Jersey.
One reason Raiders are pushing for Stafford is they’re lukewarm on Sam Darnold, the other free agents and top of draft class.

The report also indicated that the Rams may be asking for the Raiders pick at No. 6 in Round 1, which Las Vegas “will be hesitant to give up.”
The New York Post reported that the Giants met with Stafford’s representatives on Tuesday night at the NFL Scouting Combine. No word about the results of that meeting.
