The Linc – Nick Sirianni says banning the tush push would be “unfair”

The Linc – Nick Sirianni says banning the tush push would be “unfair”

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Nick Sirianni: Calls to ban tush push “unfair” and “a little insulting” – PFT

Sirianni addressed concerns that some have raised about injuries and said he did not think “the numbers on that play suggest” that it is a bigger risk to player safety than any other. Sirianni also called it “a little insulting” to say the play should be banned because the Eagles are good at it. “I almost feel a little insulted because we work so hard at that play,” Sirianni said. “The amount of things that we’ve looked into how to coach that play, the fundamentals. There’s 1000 plays out there, but it comes down to how you teach the fundamentals and how the players go through the fundamentals. . . . The fact that it’s a successful play for the Eagles and people want to take that away, I think is a little unfair.”

Do Not Ban the Tush Push – Acme Packing Company

The Green Bay Packers submitted a request to the league to ban the famous Philadelphia “Tush Push,” or for those who do not like referring to the human posterior, the “Brotherly Shove.” This struck many, including me, as counterproductive, until Tex pointed out correctly that the Packers’ use of tight end Tucker Kraft on sneaks does not actually fit the strict definition of the Tush Push, and so would not be impacted. (Seriously, read more here.) But whether the Kraft play is a Tush Push, or just a Krafty (ha!) variation, the league SHOULD NOT BAN THIS.

The NFL Scouting Combine Anger Translator – The Ringer

This week, the Packers submitted a proposal to ban the tush push. The obvious implication is that teams are sick, tired, and jealous of the Eagles physically dominating them, and now they’re so embarrassed that they want to legislate the play off the field. For the most part, I’m on the Eagles side here—if it’s so unstoppable, just learn how to do it yourselves?!? (Only the Bills have come close to Philly’s roughly 5-in-6 conversion rate.) But in a way, Morris is right that the tush push is the result of the Eagles finding a loophole in how rules are enforced. As the Los Angeles Times explained in 2022, pushing teammates was not allowed in the NFL until 2005, when the league decided the anti-pushing rule was too hard to enforce, and they instead banned pulling teammates. But it took a decade and a half for the Eagles to realize that such a change in officiating could cause a tectonic shift in short-yardage situations. Again, if everyone is allowed to do it, then complaining about it just sounds like whining.

Why Nick Sirianni is confident Kevin Patullo is ready to be OC – NBCSP

Patullo, 43, has been the Eagles’ passing game coordinator for the past four seasons under Sirianni and the two are close. Sirianni on Tuesday confirmed that Patullo will be the offensive play-caller in 2025. “I think what you guys don’t see is the collaboration,” Sirianni said. “One guy wears the crown of the offensive coordinator and it’s like that guy gets all the blame, that guy gets all the credit. That’s not the way football works. It’s just not in any sense. Kevin has been there. I can’t tell you how many suggestions he gives, how much him and Kellen are talking throughout the game, how much him and Brian (Johnson) were talking throughout the game, how much him and Shane (Steichen) were talking throughout the game, of what to call in these certain scenarios. Kevin, with all the game management stuff that we’ve done, Kevin has been side by side with me there. He’s actually called a lot of things in two-minute. ‘Hey, this is the moment for this. This is the moment for that.’ There are instances where he’s already had opportunities calling plays. Not the consistent grind of it over and over again, but it’s so collaborative, it’s such a collaborative process. I have no doubt that he’s ready for the challenge of what the jobs going to [involve].”

Eagles Film Review: Milton Williams is forcing a tough decision – BGN

I would pick Baun over Williams. I’m not sure the Eagles can extend both whilst also considering the future paydays of players such as Jalen Carter, who must be retained. I think Zack Baun is a more important player for this Eagles’ defense than Williams is. One of the benefits of having an elite defensive player is that it makes life easier for others. The Eagles should not need to pay another defensive lineman huge money when they have Jalen Carter on the roster. The Eagles already have Moro Ojomo (who is progressing exceptionally well), who could step up next year and take some more snaps if Williams does leave. I expect the Eagles to be active in free agency or the draft if Williams leaves, too.

Eagles GM Howie Roseman at the combine: 5 takeaways, from preparing to lose players to ‘concerted effort’ to keep Zack Baun to no more bloody forehead – PHLY

The gash on Howie Roseman’s forehead from a projectile beer can at the Super Bowl parade healed quickly. The Eagles general manager knows building the 2025 roster will take much longer — and he asked Eagles fans for patience while he prepares for difficult roster decisions. “It may look different — some of the moves that we may have to make here may not be what are necessarily on other people’s minds,” Roseman said to a small group of beat reporters at the combine on Tuesday in his first public comments since the Super Bowl. “It’s probably not going to look like maybe the conventional wisdom thinks it should look. I would just ask our fans to just have patience throughout the offseason. The offseason doesn’t stop in free agency. The offseason doesn’t stop in the draft.” This might have been Roseman’s way of tempering expectations for what’s ahead in the coming months, when the Eagles are prepared to make difficult decisions about players who helped them win the Super Bowl.

Howie + Nick From Indy – Iggles Blitz

Howie telling fans to be patient means there probably won’t be any Saquon moments in the upcoming offseason. The Eagles will make moves, but they have to be careful about how they spend money. They already pay big bucks to a lot of players and they have a lot of talented young guys who will need extensions in the near future. It doesn’t sound like the Garrett trade will happen. Giving up multiple high picks and then having to pay him would put a big strain on other parts of the roster. With so many good players already in place, Garrett is a luxury, not a need. It would be so much fun to see him in green, chasing Dak Prescott all over the field. Alas, it doesn’t sound like that will happen. Maybe I’m wrong, but that’s the vibe I get from Howie’s comments. I’m sure it will drive him crazy not to be going hard after an elite player like Garrett.

Spadaro: Eagles, Howie Roseman want to ‘keep this window open for as long as possible’ – PE.com

Everything is on the table, Eagles Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman said on Tuesday in Indianapolis at the NFL Scouting Combine. The goal, Roseman said, is to “keep this window open for as long as possible,” by “doing everything we can.” How to do that at a time when the Eagles have much of their roster under contract for multiple seasons and yet have some difficult decisions on key players who are scheduled to be unrestricted free agents in three weeks? “We have to get creative,” Roseman said, “to make sure that we’re keeping as many of our good players as we can. I sat up here last year and I said that’s going to include playing young players and I think that’s going to be a huge part of what we are going forward because we’re fortunate enough to have a lot of good players who are making a lot of money.” And there you have it.

On the Shane Page #72: Season Review & FA Preview w/BLG – Eagles Pin-Pull Network

Shane and Jonny are joined by Brandon Lee Gowton of Bleeding Green Nation to revisit their pre-season predictions (from episode #47) before conducting a pending free-agent snake draft of the players they think the Eagles are most likely to retain.

Jalen Hurts accepts Citizen of the Year award: ‘The city of Philadelphia has been great to me’ – Inquirer

“As I sit here in this room, I see a common theme,” Hurts said. “I’ve received a ton of awards. God’s blessed me with so much in my life. This award holds a special significance for me, knowing everything that we have in common in this room. Everyone has a certain level of drive, a certain level of passion, a will about what they do. I think that’s a quality that oozes throughout the city of Philadelphia — tough and gritty people that don’t take ‘no’ for an answer. “I don’t know if I’d be here without a lot of individuals like yourselves in this room today throughout my development, throughout my transition to manhood.”

All-Pro Jason Peters will be back with Seahawks in 2025 – Field Gulls

This new move is in a different direction, however: assistant to Mo Kelly, the vice president of player affairs. Jason Peters is not stepping straight into coaching, but the front office. Kelly’s position most directly involves player care, both for current and former members of the Seahawks, including onboarding, development and transition for life during and after their NFL playing days.

Andy Reid on Super Bowl loss: ‘It was a bad day to have a bad day’ – Arrowhead Pride

While it might seem longer, it’s only been two and a half weeks since the Philadelphia Eagles handed the Kansas City Chiefs a 40-22 defeat in Super Bowl LIX. Just the same, it’s been enough time for head coach Andy Reid to gain some perspective on a very bad loss. “It was a bad day to have a bad day — for sure,” he told reporters at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis on Tuesday. “Like all games, you can learn some things from it. It hurts for a few days and then you move on quickly. You get about three days into it [where] you mope around a little bit — and then, all of a sudden, you’re onto free agency and you’re doing your thing.” Reid acknowledged that he bears a big part of the responsibility for the loss.

Miguez: My thoughts on the Saints coaching staff – Canal Street Chronicles

The New Orleans Saints have undergone a lot of changes in recent weeks after bringing in head coach Kellen Moore on February 10. Since then, the former offensive coordinator has been assembling his staff, finding a good mix of people he’s worked with and people who would bring a ton of benefit to his team. First, let’s look at the coaches he brought with him from the Philadelphia Eagles: Moore brought in Doug Nussmeier, who played quarterback for the Saints in the 90s and his son is currently heading into his senior season at LSU. Ted Rath is also coming to New Orleans as the director of sports science. You may remember him as Sean McVay’s get-back guy several years ago. Moore also brought TJ Paganetti to the Crescent CIty with him as an offensive assistant, which is one move that has been viewed as an underrated one.

Adam Peters speaks at the NFL Scouting Combine – Hogs Haven

Washington currently has seven draft picks, but that could change before the draft begins on April 24th. There are rumors about the Commanders interest in Browns DE Myles Garrett, and the team has given Jonathan Allen permission to seek a trade. Washington already traded several picks last season for a former All-Pro in CB Marshon Lattimore, but injuries limited his contributions. Peters and Quinn have a lot of work to do to a roster they patched together last year behind a rookie phenom, and they will get a closer look at some potential new players this week.

What “selectively aggressive” could look like for the Cowboys and their offseason plans – Blogging The Boys

SIGNING OUTSIDE FREE AGENTS. Retaining their own players is great, and getting deals done earlier is nice for various reasons, but what fans really want is for them to be active spenders in free agency. When good players are out there who could fill some big holes on the roster, it’s hard not to be intrigued about a possible new acquisition. This is where we might want to slow our roll because the Cowboys aren’t likely to be aggressive here. They know it’s a risky way to do business when it comes to building a roster, and the chances of them being swayed to change their stripes doesn’t seem realistic. That doesn’t mean they don’t open up the wallet a little bit more than usual to secure a player or two who helps strengthen the roster. Don’t expect a big name, but it might not be as cheap as it’s been in the past. Prediction: Nah, who are they kidding? It’s just not the Cowboys’ way.

With focus on 2025, New York Giants GM Joe Schoen fans Matthew Stafford flames – Big Blue View

Asked specifically about a “37-year-old quarterback,” Schoen continued to talk about 2025. “Best player available that can help us win games in ‘25,” Schoen said. “We need a quarterback. Everybody knows that. Everybody sees our depth chart, and we need a quarterback.” Schoen seemed firm in his belief that getting the right quarterback will go a long way toward making the Giants competitive in 2025. “I think the quarterback elevates the rest of the roster. Yeah, absolutely,” Schoen said. “If you score more points, the defensive line can rush more. They’re not playing down seven, down 10, whatever it is where teams are in mixed downs or they can run the ball better, get leads. They can pin their ears back and get after it. It makes it a little bit easier on the defense.” Schoen knows, though, that “there’s only so many” of those kinds of quarterbacks. He knows he has to get it right this offseason. Even if the quarterback he gets is 37 years old.

Predicting all 32 NFL starting quarterbacks for 2025 season – ESPN+
New York Giants. Predicted 2025 starter: Cam Ward. The Giants are desperate. That’s what happens when ownership retains a head coach and general manager on thin ice — something that Giants owner John Mara made clear when he said a turnaround “better not take too long, because I’ve just about run out of patience.” All that does is incentivize GM Joe Schoen and coach Brian Daboll to take considerable measures, including surrendering future value, to maximize their chances to win in 2025. In this scenario, they can guarantee landing Ward by trading with the Titans to move up to No. 1.

Raheem Morris and Terry Fontenot talk prospects, Kirk Cousins at the Combine – The Falcoholic

Raheem Morris is in favor of banning the tush push. Kind of self-explanatory but thought I’d share it regardless.

What we learned from Browns Andrew Berry’s presser at the NFL combine – Dawgs By Nature

Berry’s stance on trading Garrett remains unchanged. To the surprise of no one, general manager Andrew Berry remains steadfast in his commitment to not trading away defensive end Myles Garrett, who requested a trade earlier this month. If you follow the Browns close enough, Berry rarely caves into trade requests. Cleveland has all the leverage in this situation and the front office obviously believes in not trading Garrett for the sake of appeasing him. Trading Garrett would essentially create a snowball effect in which the entire roster would have to be torn down, the salary cap situation potentially getting worse and losing out on money to spend in free agency. It’s a staring contest and neither side appears to be blinking.

Abdul Carter wants to be the first overall pick in the NFL Draft – SB Nation

Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine was all about executives and coaches. Wednesday the focus shifts to the players. When morning broke over the Indianapolis Convention Center the first group of prospects met with the media, including kickers, defensive linemen, and linebackers. In that group? The prospect that might be the first-overall selection in a few months: Penn State pass rusher Abdul Carter. And as you might expect, Carter’s goal is to be just that.
