The Bengals will make Ja’Marr Chase the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.
The Cincinnati Bengals are gearing up for perhaps the most important offseason in franchise history.
It sounds like they know that and are planning to spend the big bucks to keep their stars under contract for the foreseeable future.
On Tuesday, Bengals director of player personnel Duke Tobin met with the media at the NFL Combine, where he said the team plans to make Ja’Marr Chase the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL.
Tobin is also hopeful of getting a deal done with impending free agent Tee Higgins.
“Tee is the one that’s not signed for the future right now, so that puts the onus on us to do something,” Tobin said. “He (Chase) is going to end up being the No. 1 paid non-quarterback in the league. We’re there. Let’s get it done.”
Tobin made it sound like the Bengals are working the hardest on Higgins since he’s not under contract, and the team wants a deal done ASAP.
“They’re all priorities to us, but the ones that aren’t signed are the ones that are on the table first,” he said while adding, “Our preference is a long-term agreement (for Higgins). We’ll work hard to get that done.”
Let’s hope that comes to fruition before the franchise tag has to be used.
“I want (Tee Higgins) on my team.”

“Our preference is a long term agreement. We’ll work hard to get that done.”
Later said he’s “optimistic” it gets done.
