Gerald Everett offers speed and explosiveness to a tight end room currently lacking his skillset
The Los Angeles Rams should re-unite with tight end Gerald Everett this season after the Chicago Bears announced his separation from their team this week. After sub-par performances from LA’s tight ends last season, Everett could be the change-of-pace that the team has lacked since his departure.
Everett is turning 31 this year and is coming off a season that saw him start in just four games for the Bears that he had little impact in (8 receptions, 36 yards, 0 touchdowns) but just a year prior had 51 receptions, 411 yards receiving, and three touchdowns with the Los Angeles Chargers. In the final year with LA in 2020 he recorded 41 receptions, 417 yards, and possibly had one of the most memorable touchdowns in recent Rams history.

LA’s former tight end could be brought in at a discount after a down-year and fill the void behind Tyler Higbee in the position group. Everett is one of the more athletic tight ends in the league with a 6-3 frame to help make contested catches on the sideline. Paired up with a veteran quarterback like Matthew Stafford and his former offensive guru in Sean McVay, Everett offers a low investment with a mid to high ceiling in LA’s offense. In his eight seasons in the league he has posted a 40+ yard reception in half.

During last year’s draft, Les Snead made a valiant effort to move up in the first round in order to add Brock Bowers to the roster and give Sean McVay another weapon to utilize, however it never came to fruition and the Las Vegas Raiders found their tight end for the foreseeable future. With Tyler Higbee sidelined for the majority of the season the team ran with Colby Parkinson, Hunter Long, and Davis Allen with mixed results:
Colby Parkinson: 30 receptions, 294 yards, 1 touchdown
Hunter Long: 7 receptions, 60 yards, 0 touchdowns
Davis Allen: 6 receptions, 39 yards, 0 touchdowns
Higbee’s made an instant impact with the veteran tight end doing most of his damage in the postseason with 12 receptions, 112 yards, and a touchdown. As long as he remains on the team he will likey be LA’s main target but their are plenty of question marks residing behind him. Snead could add $3.1 million in cap space by cutting Parkinson before 6/1 according to Spotrac.
Bringing in Everett at the league minimum for a year would allow the team to focus on other position groups that may need more attention this offseason.
