Rookie QB? Veteran QB? Malik Nabers wants Giants to get both

Entering his second year, wide receiver lays out his QB plan

Malik Nabers knows what he wants for the New York Giants at quarterback. A highly-drafted rookie to be the quarterback of the future, with a quality veteran in place to teach the young gun and take some of the pressure off.

“Probably both,” Nabers said on a recent ‘Ross Tucker podcast’ when asked if he wanted a rookie or an experienced quarterback. “You’d rather have a young guy you can grow with and a veteran that knows what’s going on. That rookie also can learn from that vet. When he comes in it’s not like, here, you’re the savior of the team.

“I don’t want that on a young guy, a young QB. That can mess up their mind. I’d rather have a vet that can teach that rookie, and then when his time comes his time comes.”

So, umm, Nabers for GM?

Here are a few other tidbits from Nabers’ appearance with Tucker.

On Can Ward and Sheduer Sanders …

“There’s something different about both of those guys when they compete against each other. You see online they’re always competing against each other. I like that competitive mindset.

“I’m not sure what the draft [is] gonna be … we’ll see.”

Where he can get better …

Nabers caught 109 passes, most ever for a rookie wide receiver, in 2024. Las Vegas Raiders tight end Brock Bowers caught an overall record 112. Nabers had 1,204 receiving yards.

“Being an actual route runner,” Nabers said. “When I watched the clips from this year I kinda rushed a lot of things, I rushed a lot of routes. I didn’t really get busy in the routes.

“The second thing is maintaining my body health. I had a lot of nicks, it was something every week that I was going through. Just trying to keep my body healthy during the season. It’s a pretty long season.

The full interview is below. The Nabers’ portion is basically the first half of the show.
