Dolphins wide receivers coach interviewing for Saints offensive coordinator position

Robert Prince’s tenure with the Miami Dolphins may be a short one.

Three weeks. That may be the entire Miami Dolphins tenure for wide receivers coach Robert Prince. Miami officially added Prince to head coach Mike McDaniel’s staff on January 28, hiring him as the Dallas Cowboys shook up their coaching staff. Now, it appears Prince could be moving on from Miami as he interviews for an offensive coordinator position.

According to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Prince is set to interview with the New Orleans Saints on Saturday night. If he were to be hired, Prince would be reunited with former Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. Both Moore and Prince were on the Cowboys’ staff in 2022, Moore’ final yeas as Dallas’s offensive coordinator and Prince’s first season as their wide receivers coach.

Moore was the Philadelphia Eagles’ offensive coordinator this year, helping the team win the Super Bowl in his lone year with the team.

Prince has had a long coaching career, starting as a graduate assistant in 1989 at Humboldt State. He continued through various roles at Montana State, Sacramento State, Fort Lewis, Portland State, and Boise State before his first NFL position as an offensive assistant for running backs and tight ends with the Atlanta Falcons in 2004. After stints with the Jacksonville Jaguars and Seattle Seahawks through the 2009 season, Prince returned to college, where he worked at Colorado and Boise State. In 2014, he was named the Detroit Lions’ wide receivers coach, continuing in that role through 2020. He moved over to the Houston Texans in 2021, then to the Cowboys in 2022 through last year, all as a wide receivers coach.

With uncertainty surrounding the Cowboys’ coaching staff for 2025 after they allowed head coach Mike McCarthy’s contract to expire in mid-January, Prince joined the Dolphins to continue working as a wide receivers coach. Miami’s vacancy came after the team fired Wes Welker after three years in the position.

Prince’s move to interview for the Saints’ offensive coordinator position may seem unusual given he just joined Miami, but if he has an opportunity for a promotion during a confusing offseason, he has to take it. Moore clearly knows Prince and likely specifically targeted him as the Saints look to build their new coaching staff. Prince’s interview comes just four days after Moore was hired.

If Prince does join New Orleans, Miami will be back in the market for a wide receivers coach just three weeks after thinking they filled out their coaching staff for 2025.
