Matthew Stafford Could Be This Offseason’s Biggest QB Domino | SI
Albert Breer believes the New York Giants are great landing spot for Matthew Stafford:
In New York, I think the Los Angeles Rams QB would be joining a team that’s much closer than people think. They’ve got a franchise left tackle (Andrew Thomas) and budding No. 1 receiver (Malik Nabers) on offense, and a defense that’s well-built around three cornerstones (Brian Burns, Dexter Lawrence, Kayvon Thibodeaux) along the front. They also have some financial wiggle room to land Stafford, then use Stafford to lure more veterans.
Add to that the fact that you’ve got some folks there that’ll be fighting for their jobs in the fall, and are under a fair amount of pressure to find a quarterback after the Daniel Jones contract didn’t work out, and I could see the Giants acting with some urgency.

Jets moving on from QB Aaron Rodgers: Four potential landing spots for four-time MVP | NFL.com
Rodgers wasn’t elite in 2024, but he was certainly better than any quarterback the Giants played, making for an ideal partnership between a coach seeking immediate results and a passer seeking purpose for one more season. Yes, Rodgers switching sides in New York would be comical, but it’s not difficult to imagine the Giants welcoming him to their side of MetLife Stadium as a bridge to their future. If they draft a quarterback in April, Rodgers can also fulfill the mentor role he said he was willing to take on in his final months with the Jets.
2025 NFL offseason: Free agency, draft questions for 32 teams | ESPN
How can the Giants get competitive? It always starts with the quarterback position, and owner John Mara has already said it’s priority No. 1 this offseason. But it’s way more than that. You don’t finish 3-14 by accident. It’s imperative the Giants get a No. 1 cornerback after Deonte Banks flopped this past season. They can’t possibly put him in that situation again.
They also need to add depth to both lines, acquire more playmakers and fix their secondary as a whole. The Giants have a lot of work to do (in both the draft and free agency) to simply get back on the track to respectability.

Whether the Giants use the No. 3 draft pick on a QB or sign a veteran, that has to be priority No. 1. To be fair to Jones, he didn’t have a lot of help with an offensive line that physically fell apart this season. Three starters, including left tackle Andrew Thomas, left guard Jon Runyan and right tackle Evan Neal, missed significant time due to injuries. This team desperately needs depth at the position. And with WR Darius Slayton, CB Adoree’ Jackson and others potentially leaving in free agency, those positions will need to be addressed.
One underrated 2025 NFL free agent at every offensive position | PFF
Wide Receiver: Darius Slayton. Even though the Giants kept drafting and signing wide receivers, Slayton never got phased out of New York’s offense and always earned an opportunity for himself. Before this past season, Slayton proved time and again that he can be one of the better WR3s in the league — or even a WR2. His 15.6 receiving yards per reception over 2022 and 2023 ranked 11th among 105 qualifying receivers, while his 1.46 receiving yards per route run placed him 48th at the position.

Marquand Manuel is the new secondary coach/defensive pass game coordinator; Jeff Burris will coach cornerbacks; Chad Hall will serve as the assistant quarterbacks coach; Troy Brown will be an offensive assistant as part of the NFL Minority Coaching Fellowship; and Steven Ferentz and Grant Morgan have been hired as defensive assistants.
The Giants also added three new members to the strength and conditioning/performance department under Aaron Wellman, the executive director of player performance. Dr. Matthew Frakes will be the director of performance nutrition, and Chris Allen and Mark Naylor have been brought on as assistant strength and conditioning coaches. In addition, Drew Wilson has been promoted to director of strength and conditioning.

Tackling grades for all 32 NFL teams: Broncos, Lions rank in top five for 2024 season | NFL.com
New York Giants Grade: 68.7 (D+). Though their 13.3% missed tackle rate hovered right around the league average (13%), the real problem was the damage those whiffs created. New York was just one of six teams to give up over 1,000 yards after missed tackles, finishing with the fourth-highest total in the league (1,081) and the second-highest average per miss (6.3).
Giants 7-round mock draft 1.0: Is Cam Ward falling to No. 3 the dream scenario? | The Athletic
Round 2, No. 34: Derrick Harmon, DT, Oregon. The 6-foot-5, 310-pound Harmon ranks No. 19 on Dane Brugler,’s big board. At Oregon this year, Harmon registered 27 solo tackles, five sacks and two forced fumbles.
“Harmon is a player who can win in different ways,” Brugler said. “He forces blockers to attack air because of his lateral explosiveness, but he also uses strong, crafty hands to swat away their reaches as he bursts through gaps to close on the ball carrier. He must become a more consistent finisher, but there wasn’t a more disruptive interior defensive lineman in college football this season.”

The Giants may simply look to get something of value in return for Evan Neal before he enters the final year of his rookie contract. While Neal may not have long-term value for the Giants, it doesn’t mean he can’t find success elsewhere. Mekhi Becton’s 2024 redemption campaign with the Philadelphia Eagles shows that sometimes a change of scenery—and, in his case, a change of position—can allow a previously disappointing player to thrive.
