The Eagles RB set a new NFL all-time single-season rushing record (regular season and playoffs) in Super Bowl LIX against the Chiefs.
Saquon Barkley is officially the NFL’s new All-Time Single Season Rushing Record holder!
The Eagles running back needed just 30 rushing yards heading into Super Bowl LIV against the Chiefs, and hit that mark just before halftime. He now tops Terrell Davis who set the record in 1998 with 2,476 yards.
Barkley has zoomed past personal, franchise, and league records, what seems like weekly, during his historic 2024 NFL season, and while he wasn’t able to go for the regular season rushing record, he did still have his sights on the all-time single season rushing record (regular season and playoffs).
It was disappointing that Barkley wasn’t able to go for the regular season record, but ultimately, the Eagles had bigger goals and didn’t want to risk injury in a meaningless Week 18 game. Other teams made different decisions and lost some of their biggest playmakers heading into the playoffs. Instead, Barkley sat the final game of the year and has had a super strong postseason leading all the way to the Super Bowl.
Barkley is fresh off being awarded the NFL’s Offensive Player of the Year, and is quickly becoming one of the greatest Eagles of all-time. He deserves every accolade and award he racks up, not only this year, but throughout the remainder of his career in Philly — one that is hopefully very long and sees him retiring in Eagles green at the end of it.
Cheers to 2kSa!
