Giants fans believe compensatory picks are more valuable
The 2025 hiring cycle around the NFL is almost at a conclusion, but the New York Giants coaching staff and front office still remains in a bit of uncertainty.
Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Head Coach Mike Kafka is one of the the finalists for the New Orleans Saints head coaching job, while Assistant General Manager Brandon Brown is in the running to be the Jacksonville Jaguars’ next GM.
We’ve consistently heard that both men are respected around the NFL, as evidenced by the League’s continued interest in them as head coaching and GM candidates, respectively. So this week we asked Giants fans whether they believed that losing Kafka, Brown, or both would be a serious blow to the Giants.
Most Giants’ fans responded that they believe the third-round compensatory picks would be more valuable to the future of the franchise than Kafka or Brown.
Only 31% of Giants fans believe that losing either (or both) would be a net loss for the team, with some disagreement on just how big a blow the losses would be.
To a certain extent, the results make sense.
Fans are understandably frustrated and there’s a feeling permeating the fanbase that given the results over the last two years, the process must be bad. Therefore, the only way forward is to change the process and leadership at the top. Combine that with the fact that the third round picks represent hope for the future, and it’s easy to see where that 57 percent of the fanbase is coming from.
We don’t know where Brown stands in the Jaguars’ search as of this writing, and as things stand now, it’s unlikely that Kafka will be the Saints’ next head coach. Right now, it seems as though Kellen Moore is in the lead with respect to the Saints’ coaching search.
However, they can’t speak to Moore again until after the Super Bowl. Speaking of the Super Bowl, FanDuel Sportsbook has a 1.5-point spread, with the Kansas City Chiefs as the favorites. Respondents in the national poll were as close as the spread, with 51 percent believing that the Eagles will cover.
That doesn’t necessarily mean that most believe Philly will win and dethrone the Chiefs, but there are few outcomes where the Eagles cover and don’t win.
Fans are expecting a high-scoring game as well, with 56% taking the over on a 48.5 over/under for the game.
Personally, I’m not so sure about that. These are two potentially high-powered offenses, but this game also features the two best — and most experienced — defensive minds in the game between Steve Spagnuolo and Vic Fangio.
From a purely “Football” perspective, it will be fascinating to see what both men have cooked up to slow down the other offense.
