Prior to the NFL Awards tonight, I wanted to get some feeling about who Minnesota Vikings fans would select for the awards. I’m looking for your choice, not who you think will win. Vote below for your selections:
MVP
- Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills QB – 3,731 Yards, 28 TD, 6 INT, 531 Yards Rushing 12 TD
- Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles RB – 2,005 Yards, 13 TD, 278 Yards Receiving, 2 TD
- Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals QB – 4,918 Yards, 43 TD, 9 INT, 201 Yards Rushing 2 TD
- Jared Goff, Detroit Lions QB – 4,629 Yards, 37 TD, 12 INT, 56 Yards Rushing
- Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens QB – 4,172 Yards, 41 TD, 4 INT, 915 Yards Rushing 4 TDs
My Winner: Lamar Jackson – the best numbers on a contending team. I will only listen to Barkley as an alternate. Josh Allen’s MVP was media made and the rhetoric started in August.
Offensive Player of the Year
- Saquon Barkley, Philadelphia Eagles RB – 2,005 Yards, 13 TD, 278 Yards Receiving, 2 TD
- Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals QB – 4,918 Yards, 43 TD, 9 INT, 201 Yards Rushing 2 TD
- Ja’Marr Chase, Cincinnati Bengals WR – 1,708 Yards, 17 TD, 32 Yards Rushing
- Derrick Henry, Baltimore Ravens RB – 1,921 Yards, 16 TD, 193 Yards Receiving, 2 YD
- Lamar Jackson, Baltimore Ravens QB – 4,172 Yards, 41 TD, 4 INTs, 915 Yards Rushing 4 TD
My Winner: Saquon Barkley – the best season a running back has ever had if you include the postseason. You get over 2,000 yards rushing in 16 games and you get my vote.
Defensive Player of the Year
- Zack Baun, Philadelphia Eagles LB – 151 Tackles, 11 TFL, 3.5 Sacks, 1 FR
- Myles Garrett, Cleveland Browns DE – 14 Sacks, 47 Tackles, 22 TFL, 3 FF, 1 PD
- Trey Hendrickson, Cincinnati Bengals DE – 17.5 Sacks, 46 Tackles, 19 TFL, 2 FF, 6 PD
- Patrick Surtain II, Denver Broncos CB – 4 INT, 1 Def TD, 1 FR, 45 Tackles, 1 TFL, 58.9 Passer Rating when targeted
- T.J. Watt, Pittsburgh Steelers LB – 11.5 Sacks, 61 Tackles, 19 TFL, 6 FF, 4 PD
My Winner: Trey Hendrickson – It’s between Hendrickson and Garrett for me. I give the nod to Hendrickson for the NFL sack lead and the 6 passes defensed. Garrett needs to get his hands up. Disappointing that Greenard and/or Van Ginkel couldn’t quite get on the list.
Offensive Rookie of the Year
- Brock Bowers, Las Vegas Raiders TE – 1,194 Yards, 5 TD
- Jayden Daniels, Washington Commanders QB 3,568 Yards, 25 TD, 9 INT, 891 Yards Rushing, 6 TDs
- Malik Nabers, New York Giants WR – 1,204 Yards, 7 TD
- Bo Nix, Denver Broncos QB – 3,775 Yards, 29 TD, 12 INT, 430 Yards Rushing, 4 TDs, 1 TD Catch for 2 Yards
- Brian Thomas Jr., Jacksonville Jaguars WR – 1,282 Yards, 10 TD
My Winner: Jayden Daniels – he wins by a landslide. It’s not fair, but the QB is the most important and he was the best. Bo Nix was almost as good and it’s not considered enough. Bowers had one of the best rookie seasons ever by a TE. Brian Thomas Jr should round out the top 4, but the media will love Nabers over him.
Defensive Rookie of the Year
- Cooper DeJean, Philadelphia Eagles CB – 51 Tackles, 3 TFL, 1 FF, 3 FR
- Braden Fiske, Los Angeles Rams DE – 8.5 Sacks, 44 Tackles, 10 TFL, 2 FF, 2 FR
- Quinyon Mitchell, Philadelphia Eagles CB – 12 PD, 46 Tackles, 87.2 Rating when targeted
- Chop Robinson, Miami Dolphins LB – 26 Tackles, 8 TFL, 4 PD
- Jared Verse, Los Angeles Rams LB – 4.5 Sacks, 66 Tackles, 11 TFL, 2 FF, 2 FR, 2 PD
My Winner: Braden Fiske – Fiske gets it over his teammate Verse. The Rams and Eagles nailed the defensive side of this draft.
Comeback Player of the Year
- Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals QB – 4,918 Yards, 43 TD, 9 INT, 201 Yards Rushing 2 TD
- Sam Darnold, Minnesota Vikings QB – 4,319 Yards, 35 TD, 12 INT, 212 Yards Rushing, 1 TD
- J.K. Dobbins, Los Angeles Chargers RB – 905 Yards, 9 TDs, 153 Yards Receiving
- Christian Gonzalez, New England Patriots CB – 2 INT, 1 FR, 1 Def TD, 59 Tackles, 1 TFL, 71.7 Rating when targeted
- Damar Hamlin, Buffalo Bills S – 2 INT, 1 FR, 89 Tackles, 2 TFL, 103.0 Rating when targeted
My Winner: Sam Darnold – Sammy Delight should win and have a nice contract awaiting for him in free agency from a non-Minnesota team. Thank you for the fun season.
Coach of the Year
- Dan Campbell, Detroit Lions HC – 15-2
- Kevin O’Connell, Minnesota Vikings HC – 14-3
- Sean Payton, Denver Broncos HC – 10-7
- Dan Quinn, Washington Commanders HC – 12-5
- Andy Reid, Kansas City Chiefs HC – 15-2
My Winner: Kevin O’Connell – KOC wins, but it’s still competition. I wrote an article two weeks ago about the COTY that had my thoughts in details. Dan Quinn and Dan Campbell are also great choices. I couldn’t argue about Payton (gross) either with his rookie QB. Reid might be the best coach not named Bill Belichick.
Assistant Coach of the Year
- Joe Brady, Buffalo Bills OC
- Vic Fangio, Philadelphia Eagles DC
- Brian Flores, Minnesota Vikings DC
- Aaron Glenn, Detroit Lions DC
- Ben Johnson, Detroit Lions OC
My Winner: Brian Flores – what he did piecing together all the new starters, is unmatched. Aaron Glen would’ve been there if they didn’t fall apart. His entire defense was hurt.
