Las Vegas is hiring Notre Dame running backs coach
The Las Vegas Raiders have hired Pete Carroll as their new head coach. He is building his new staff. He has reportedly hired Deland McCullough as their running backs coach.
Let’s get to know McCullough better:
Last job:
McCullough was Notre Dame’s running backs coach since 2022. He was also the Fighting Irish, which went to the National Championship game, associate head coach in 2024.
Age:
52.
Coaching experience:
McCullough was the Kansas City Chiefs’ running backs coach from 2018-20 and was part of Andy Reid’s first Super Bowl championship run. That is his only NFL coaching experience. He has 11 seasons experience as a college coach.
What a story:
In 2017, McCullough found out he was the biological son of his mentor Sherman Smith and it inspired a movie. Smith was Pete Carroll’s running backs coach in Seattle from 2010-17.
Why the Raiders would hire him:
Carroll is familiar with him and he has had recent success like new Raiders’ offensive coordinator Chip Kelly.
