A loss for the Vikings’ coaching staff
Just when it looked like the Minnesota Vikings might make it through the offseason without losing anyone from the coaching staff, one of their promising young assistants has gotten poached by a first-time head coach filling out his staff.
News dropped overnight that the Jacksonville Jaguars will be hiring Vikings assistant quarterbacks coach Grant Udinski to be the new offensive coordinator under Liam Coen.
The 29-year old Udinski isn’t a name that a lot of folks would readily recognized, but folks around the National Football League certainly knew who he was. He interviewed with five different teams for their offensive coordinator position over the past few weeks, and now he’s on his way to Duval County to work with Trevor Lawrence and the Jacksonville offense.
Udinski has been in Minnesota since Kevin O’Connell hired him as an assistant in 2022. He was then promoted to the assistant quarterback coach job in 2023 and added assistant offensive coordinator to his title in 2024. He’s been credited, at least in part, with the renaissance that Sam Darnold experienced in 2024, putting together by far his best season in the National Football League under the eyes of O’Connell, Udinski, and quarterbacks coach Josh McCown.
It is being reported that Udinski will not be calling the plays for the Jaguars’ offense, as Coen has said that he will handle those responsibilities.
We want to wish Grant Udinski the best of luck in his new endeavor in Jacksonville. . .except, of course, when the Jaguars play the Vikings, which as of now won’t be until the 2028 season.
