Continuing our annual review of the Miami Dolphins’ soon-to-be free agents with a closer look at tight end Jack Stoll.
The 2025 NFL free agency period is slowly approaching, with just five-and-a-half weeks until players with expiring contracts can hit the open market. Teams all around the league, including the Miami Dolphins, have between now and the March 12, 4 p.m. Eastern start to the new league year to work out contract extensions or use the franchise/transition tag on players – or decide to let them hit free agency.

Stoll originally signed with the Giants as a free agent in the 2024 offseason, but was released at the end of the preseason, returning to the Eagles, initially on the practice squad before being promoted to the active roster. He was waived by the Eagles in November, likely with the plan to sign him back to the practice squad, but the Dolphins claimed him off waivers. He provided depth at tight end for Miami, but he only played two offensive snaps with the team, while appearing on 33 special teams plays.
2025 Outlook
Stoll is a solid blocking tight end, but he has only had more than five receptions in a season once, catching 11 passes in 2022 with the Eagles. He is typically a special teams player, appearing in around half the special teams snaps for Philadelphia in each of his seasons there. That is likely his role again, no matter where he lands for the 2025 season.
Walk, Tag, Re-Sign?

Walk. Signing Stoll for the veteran minimum on a one-year contract would be fine, but it feels like the Dolphins can get about the same production with a late-round linebacker, running back, or tight end who plays special teams. If you want the veteran aspect to that role, he could be re-signed, but it feels like a place where churning the bottom end of the roster works well.
