New York Giants news for Tuesday

Good morning New York Giants fans!

Other Giant observations

Myles Garrett trade request: How it impacts NY Giants | The Record

Myles Garrett wants out in Cleveland. Whatever the Browns do in response will factor into how this offseason plays out for the New York Giants. If Garrett is dealt, the Browns could just draft either Ward or Sanders with a reset toward the future. It’s also possible they take a longer term view at the position, which opens up possibilities at No. 2.

But without the perceived pressure to win now from Garrett, the Browns could go full blown rebuild in that spot and trade the pick. Then, the Giants would have to decide if they will send assets to Cleveland to swap spots – especially if they are concerned another team might trade up for a quarterback they may have in their sights. The Las Vegas Raiders could be one of those potential suitors.

3. New York Giants: QB Shedeur Sanders, Colorado. Sanders has a strong foundation as a passer, with fundamentally sound throwing mechanics that give him the tools to develop at the next level. However, his most impressive trait may be his ability to limit mistakes. Since moving to the FBS, he has produced a negatively graded throw on just 10.9% of his dropbacks, a 97th-percentile mark.

Per ESPN’s Pete Thamel, there has been a “building sentiment” from scouts and executives at the Senior Bowl this week that Ward “is likely” to be selected No. 1 overall.

Three Reasons Why Sam Darnold Doesn’t Make Sense for the Giants at QB | SI.com

While Sam Darnold is considered as the top quarterback option in free agency, there are three reasons why the New York Giants shouldn’t bid for his services: Darnold’s reliance on pressure-free situations makes the Giants a bad fit; investing in Darnold long-term provides high risk and low reward potential; and Shedeur Sanders/Cam Ward are less expensive options with higher ceilings.

It’s was a bit of a surreal experience for the No. 6 pick as he takes in the events of the week.

“I get to see these guys play all year, but now I get to just to chat with them in person and to realize how good of people they actually are, to rub shoulders with a lot of these receivers and ask some questions,” Nabers said as a dodgeball game played out during Thursday night’s skills event. “It’s actually really good that I got here at a young age to get to pick the brains of these guys.”

This catch made the Giants front office, fans hold their breath

Hypothetical NFL Player Swaps We’d Love to See After NBA’s Davis-Dončić Trade | Bleacher Report

Matthew Stafford, Puka Nacua for Malik Nabers, Dru Phillips. In this hypothetical scenario, the Rams would rip off the proverbial Band-Aid by dealing Stafford to the New York Giants. New York needs a franchise quarterback, and head coach Brian Daboll is under a ton of pressure to win now. To flesh out the trade, the Rams send offensive running mates Puka Nacua and Blake Corum to New York in exchange for receiver Malik Nabers, cornerback Dru Phillips and draft compensation. Nacua is an elite receiver when healthy and Stafford’s favorite target. Corum could pair with Tyrone Tracy Jr. to give New York a potent rushing attack.

Hypothetical Trade We’d Love to See: OL Jermaine Eluemunor, 2025 first-round pick (No. 3 overall), 2025 fifth-round pick (No. 155 overall) for QB Geno Smith, 2025 first-round pick (No. 18 overall), 2025 third-round pick (No. 82 overall)

Brian Daboll has yet to have a good quarterback since taking the Giants’ job. It’s time that he gets a chance to prove himself with a quarterback who can win right now. Geno Smith might just be the best quarterback who could be available via trade. It would also still leave the Giants with two draft picks to improve the overall roster.

What is Deonte Banks’ Giants future after rough 2024? 38 thoughts on 38 defensive players | The Athletic

Bobby Okereke: Okereke didn’t transition well to new defensive coordinator Shane Bowen’s scheme. Okereke was more of a playmaker in Wink Martindale’s defense in 2023, recording a career-high 11 tackles for loss. Okereke seemed to be hitting his stride in Bowen’s defense midway through the season before suffering a back injury that sidelined him for the final five games. Okereke has a $14.5 million cap hit in 2025, which is the sixth highest among inside linebackers. The Giants need more from Okereke at that cost.
