The Linc – Lane Johnson says he’s “definitely not retiring” after Super Bowl LIX

Let’s get to the Philadelphia Eagles links …

Eagles’ Lane Johnson ‘Definitely Not Retiring’ After Super Bowl 59 ‘Win or Lose’ – B/R

Even though the Super Bowl isn’t for another week, the Philadelphia Eagles have already secured a big win with Lane Johnson vowing to return next season. Johnson told reporters on Saturday he’s “definitely not retiring” after the Super Bowl whether they “win or lose” against the Kansas City Chiefs. There hasn’t really been any chatter about Johnson hanging up his cleats after this season. He said during the preseason he physically feels like he could play until he’s 40, but a more realistic timeframe is two to three more years. Johnson will turn 35 on May 8 and will wrap up his 12th NFL season in Super Bowl 59, but there’s been no noticeable decline in his performance. The Oklahoma alum was named to his fifth career and fourth consecutive All-Pro team this season.

Eagles Injury Report: Zack Baun misses practice, 4 players ruled questionable for the Super Bowl – BGN

The Eagles ruled four players QUESTIONABLE: Brandon Graham, Kenny Gainwell, Britain Covey, and C.J. Uzomah. It seems like these are the only players who are in potential jeopardy of missing the big game. And with nine days until February 9, there’s still time for their outlooks to improve. Graham was limited for the second day in a row. He continues to sound optimistic about his chances of playing.

The Chiefs’ 3 biggest offensive questions against the Eagles – Arrowhead Pride

1) Will there be a changeup in the Eagles’ primary coverages? In the Vic Fangio-style defense, the coverages you get are predictable. Fangio will play a zone-style defense on early downs, starting with two deep safeties and cornerbacks playing off coverage. He’ll rotate each safety interchangeably, but you know you’re always going to get zone coverage with the intention of keeping things underneath and generating long third downs. On third downs, Fangio will mix it up with more man coverage and five-man pressures, but even then, it’s never the most exotic pressure you’ll see. What has always made this style of defense work is that Fangio’s gamble is that by conceding 3-4 yards per play, you’re eventually going to make a mistake. Whether it’s a lousy run play, an offensive lineman blowing protection, a drop, a misthrow or a miscommunication by the quarterback, one mistake against this style of defense sets you back into third and long, where the Eagles; talent takes over, and it’s hard to thrive. However, what I find interesting about this game is that it is the exact way the Chiefs want to play. This season for Kansas City has not been about their ability to generate explosive plays but methodically picking up five or six yards a play and keeping themselves in positive down-and-distances. If Fangio concedes that airspace and yards are important to the Chiefs, we will have an entire season of film to suggest that the Chiefs are comfortable playing that style. So, my question is this: does Fangio change his gameplan?

Ranking the top Super Bowl free agents from Trey Smith to Kareem Hunt – SB Nation

2. Philadelphia Eagles LB Zack Baun. The Eagles’ linebacker is heading to free agency for the second straight year. Yet, expect Baun to get much more than a one-year, $3.5 million Philadelphia gave him to leave New Orleans a year ago. Baun had a breakout season out of nowhere as he had 151 tackles and was named first-team All-Pro and he’s a finalist for the NFL Defensive Player of the Year award. Teams will be lining up to pay him big, but he’s clearly a perfect fit for the Eagles and expect them to reward him for his incredible first season in Philadelphia.

Saints to meet with Kellen Moore again after Super Bowl, per reports – Canal Street Chronicles

The news came just hours after there were some reports that Moore might have second thoughts about the job because of the Saints quarterback situation. This report though, seems to put those rumors to rest. Moore has been an offensive coordinator for the Cowboys, Chargers and Eagles for the past six seasons. During that time, Moore has led four top-10 scoring offenses, including the No. 1 offense in 2021 with Dallas. With guys like Aaron Glenn, Joe Brady, Kliff Kingsbury and Mike McCarthy opting out of the job, Moore seems like the best option available for the Saints, and getting a third interview with him is a great step in the right direction.

In Roob’s Eagles Observations: The one thing missing from every Eagles Super Bowl – NBCSP

1. The Eagles haven’t recorded an interception in any of their four Super Bowls. They’ve faced 130 passes – 81 from Tom Brady, 27 from Patrick Mahomes, 21 from Jim Plunkett, one from Danny Amendola – without a pick. QBs are 85-for-130 for 1,184 yards with 11 TDs, no INTs and a 122.7 passer rating against the Eagles. Every quarterback that’s faced the Eagles in a Super Bowl has had a passer rating of at least 110. Teams without an interception in the Super Bowl are 9-32. The Eagles also didn’t have an INT in the 1960 NFL Championship Game. Their last championship game INT came in 1949, when Frank Reagan picked off Bob Waterfield at the Eagles’ 2-yard-line in the fourth quarter of the Eagles’ 14-0 win over the Rams in the NFL Championship Game at L.A. Coliseum. Reagan played football at Northeast Catholic High School and Penn, then served as athletic director at Villanova after his NFL career. All that said, this is a different secondary, one of the best in Eagles history. Mahomes is one of the best ever, but I think that streak ends now.

Don’t take this Eagles Super Bowl run for granted – PhillyVoice

hings change so quickly in the NFL. Look at last season! The Eagles burned out after their Super Bowl loss. Philadelphia is fortunate its team rebounded and is ready for revenge against Kansas City in New Orleans, but, looking at how things stood a year ago at this time, that was far from guaranteed. It’s not just Philadelphia. Tom Brady went 10 years between winning rings. Aaron Rodgers won once at 27 and never returned to the ultimate NFL stage. At some point, perhaps as soon as next Sunday, Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid will stop winning. Father Time is undefeated and maybe you’re left with a multi-decade Super Bowl appearance drought like the Birds once had. This is what you dream about as a fan, the glorious stories you concoct as a kid in the school yard or in barroom discussions with your friends. “What if the Eagles won the Super Bowl and they were just the best team in the history of this city?” That’s the legacy that’s on the table. Live it up for Super Bowl week. You never know how long you’ll have to wait for the next one.

Super Bowl Betting Primer: Prop bets, alt lines and parlays for Chiefs-Eagles – PFF

Lower Risk: Dallas Goedert 60+ receiving yards (+136 on FanDuel)Higher Risk: Dallas Goedert 90+ receiving yards (+470 on FanDuel). Goedert has been Jalen Hurts’ top target this postseason, tied for the team lead in playoff targets with A.J. Brown (18) and leading the Eagles in playoff receptions (15) and yards (188). They’ve gotten back to some of what they were doing with Goedert when they reached the Super Bowl a few years ago — giving him underneath, on-the-move targets (5.2-yard average depth of target in the postseason) where he can pick up yards after the catch (8.5 yards after the catch per reception in the postseason). There’s a higher likelihood that Philadelphia has to put the ball in the air more in this matchup than its season-long average, coming in as slight underdogs against a Chiefs offense that has consistently stacked strong postseason performances. And Goedert has the most favorable matchups among Eagles receivers against a Kansas City defense that has allowed more receiving yards to tight ends than any other unit in the NFL through the AFC Championship game (1,276). The lower-risk alt line here bumps up Goedert’s line by about 10 yards from where it currently sits (49.5), but I’ll be more aggressive and chase higher yardage totals at better odds, too. Goedert has gone over 90 yards only once this season (170 yards in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints), but he’s been a larger part of the passing offense in the postseason and the Chiefs should push Philadelphia to be more aggressive through the air. I think there’s a ceiling for Goedert to bet in this spot.

Super Bowl betting buzz: Early action includes big MVP bet on Travis Kelce – ESPN

The Kansas City Chiefs remained consensus 1.5-point favorites over the Philadelphia Eagles. The line ticked up to -2 briefly on Monday, but has not seen any movement since. On Thursday, ESPN BET reported that the Eagles had attracted more money-line bets than the Chiefs in 17 out of the 20 jurisdictions in which the sportsbook operates. Arizona, Kansas and New York are the only states in which the majority of bettors have sided with the Chiefs on the money line. However, overall, the bigger bets are Kansas City, with 64.1% of the “Super Bowl winner” money wagered on the Chiefs (-125) at ESPN BET.

A.J. Brown feels like a ‘paid actor’ during Eagles’ Super Bowl week. His preference? Listen to Alshon Jeffery – PHLY

If only this could be like every other week for Brown. He’s one of the stars of the Super Bowl, a second-team All-Pro wide receiver on the sport’s biggest stage. The same was true two years ago. Brown is more emotionally prepared for what to expect, understanding the cadence of the week and having a better sense of how to approach the hoopla. “It helped out a lot. I’ve been turning down media left and right,” Brown said. “It don’t matter. None of this stuff matters. This is just words. No matter what everyone says, you got to go out and play.”

Game Review – NFC CG – PHI 55, WAS 23 – Iggles Blitz

Jalen Hurts – Went 20-28-246 with a TD. He ran for 3 TDs. Was only 10-16 on the ground, but that involved several sneaks. Hurts came out throwing…first two passes were quick, short throws to AJ, DG…that seemed to get Hurts into a good rhythm…hit DG for 15 on 3rd & 7…hit AJ for gain of 31 on 4th & 5….clutch play and great throw…got momentum back to the Eagles…had DG open for a TD, but the ball was too high…scrambled in the red zone and made a terrific throw to DeVonta…he couldn’t make the catch, but drew a flag…hit AJ on a quick out for a TD…perfect throw…did a great job on getting the ball to Goedert, whether short or intermediate…those two have great chemistry.

Top five Senior Bowl game performances of last 15 years by active NFL players – NFL.com

Graham seemed to improve with each passing practice that year as one of the highest-rated defensive players attending, but it was in the game at week’s end where he really shined brightest. He earned game MVP honors by logging five tackles, two sacks and two forced fumbles — one of the more dominant individual game showings over the past few decades. The Eagles traded up for Graham to select him 13th overall that year. It took time for him to develop into a Pro Bowler, but Graham notched the key strip sack that helped Philadelphia win its first Super Bowl in February 2018.

Chiefs vs. Eagles Daily Updates: Saquon Barkley explains the secret to the Eagles’ success – PE.com

There is one thing standing in the way of the Eagles’ second Super Bowl and Gardner-Johnson’s first – the Kansas City Chiefs, led by quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who has three rings of his own, including the last two Super Bowls. It will not be the first time the eighth-year safety will play against Mahomes in the Super Bowl, having played him the last time Philadelphia reached it this far in 2022. Gardner-Johnson was asked what’s important to have success against the two-time league MVP: “To be honest with you man, that’s a hell of a player. Just honestly go out there and focus what you can focus on. He’s the new (Tom) Brady of the league, don’t want to describe him like Brady, but it is what it is. Got to be on your P’s and Q’s with him. Hell of a quarterback and just appreciate the opportunity to play against him again for a championship. Should be a good game, just got to be on my toes and be ready.”

Eagles to host Super Bowl send off party at the Linc. Here’s how to get tickets – NBC10

Calling all Philadelphia Eagles fans! Before the Birds take flight for the Super Bowl, the team is set to host a special send off party and you’re invited. The celebration will kick off on Sunday, Feb. 2, at 9 a.m. at the Lincoln Financial Field, featuring special performances by the Eagles Cheerleaders, the drumline, and Philadelphia’s own DJ Diamond Kuts.

Ja’Marr Chase: I’m not a Kansas City fan, I’m hoping Saquon Barkley rushes for 200 yards – PFT

“Everyone knows I’m not a KC fan, so I’m hoping Saquon rushes for like 200 in this game,” Chase said on ESPN. The Chiefs’ last postseason loss came three years ago, when Chase and the Bengals beat them in the AFC Championship Game. Chase thinks it’s time for someone else to join the Bengals in the exclusive group of teams that have beaten Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs in the playoffs.

The Washington Commanders have signed 12 players to Reserve/Future contracts – Hogs Haven

The Washington Commanders season is over, and it’s time to look towards the future. The team fell short in the NFC Championship game, and must now continue recalibrating the roster. They announced three signings after the regular season ended, and signed nine more players to reserve/future contracts today. The players announced today were all on the team’s 16-man practice squad. Two of the three players announced after the season hadn’t been on Washington’s roster before. [BLG Note: Three former Eagles players on this list — Tyree Jackson, Julian Good-Jones, and Anim Dankwah.]

Cowboys fans grade Schottenheimer hiring, NFL fans pick the Kick of Destiny – Blogging The Boys

In the end, though, it was offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer who got the job. What did Cowboys fans think of that? As you might already surmise, they didn’t like it. The most popular grade was a ‘C’ (30%), followed closely by an ‘F’ (27%) and a ‘D’ (24%). That’s a vote of no confidence.

Survey results: Most Giants fans think the team is two or three years away – Big Blue View

The New York Giants were once again on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs. Really, it didn’t just feel like the Giants fell short so much as their 2024 season was a Charles Dickens story. Giants’ fans watched as the Washington Commanders, a team they confidently thought was worse than the Giants, had a 12-win season. The Philadelphia Eagles, meanwhile made it all the way to the Super Bowl for the second time in three years. So we asked Giants fans just how long they thought it would take the Giants to competing for the playoffs. The majority of fans — 54% — believe that the team is two or three years away.
