The hate for the Bengals QB has gotten incredibly bland and has no factual support.
Cincinnati Bengals star quarterback Joe Burrow has skyrocketed up the list of most disrespected and hated players in the NFL.
The overwhelming disrespect that Burrow has gotten since arriving in the league and, most recently this season, makes no sense.
Burrow played incredibly well this season, leading the league in passing yards (4,918) and touchdowns (43), and is currently a finalist for MVP.
The Bengals did not make the playoffs for many reasons, but it is impossible to point the finger at Burrow and say he is at fault for the team missing the postseason due to a historically bad defense.
Former Baltimore Ravens defensive lineman Chris Canty recently had one of the worst takes on Burrow, claiming he is not elite during an appearance on ESPN show Unsportsmanlike.
Canty says the weapons around Burrow make him seem better than what he is and that he is simply just a great quarterback, but not an elite one.
“If he’s so great, then why is his team not in the playoffs, and a team like the Denver Broncos with Bo Nix is…I don’t understand. I don’t get it,” he quipped.
There are multiple reasons why the Bengals missed the playoffs in 2024, but Burrow was not one of them.
It also has to be pointed out for people like Canty that, while Burrow does have an elite group of pass-catchers, he’s frequently played behind some of the NFL’s worst offensive lines every year since joining the NFL.
Nix, conversely, played behind Pro Football Network’s No. 1 offensive line of the 2024 season. The same ranking has the Bengals ranked 29th.
When are people going to stop citing the Bengals’ offensive weapons for Burrow’s success without mentioning just how bad the offensive line is, especially compared to these other teams making the playoffs?
Oh, and did we mention Denver also has PFN’s top-ranked defense, while the Bengals were ranked 28th? Seems like pretty essential info when discussing a team sport.
Even fellow ESPN analyst Mina Kimes is tired of Canty’s Burrow takes.
Mina Kimes to Chris Canty: “Oh right, Chris, you’re the Burrow guy. You’re the one person in sports media who’s not saying Joe Burrow has been amazing and carried the team. That’s you, right?” pic.twitter.com/hv8aOMWCnn

We’ll keep educating people like Canty as long as needed.
