Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 1/30/25
Lovie Smith was with the Los Angeles Rams back when they were known as the St. Louis Rams. A lot has changed since then as Smith has had some head coaching jobs and has bounced around the coaching ranks. Could he make a return to the Rams on Sean McVay’s staff?
I doubt it, but the article below asked the question and why not? It’s basically the offseason so now is the time to speculate and have some fun.
I woke a bit under the weather this week, so I’ll keep it short, but thank you for checking out Turf Show Times! Please comment on whatever you want and have a great Thursday!
Could Lovie Smith be the Rams Next Assistant Head Coach? (ktla.com)
“If that happens, Pleasant would be the fourth AHC out of the four McVay has had in eight years to leave the Rams for a coordinator job somewhere else. Joe Barry joined former Rams assistant Matt LaFleur in Green Bay, Thomas Brown became the offensive coordinator in Carolina and Jimmy Lake followed Raheem Morris to Atlanta.
In that scenario, could McVay make a bold call and hire Lovie Smith for the role? Smith, the former head coach of the Chicago Bears, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Illinois Fighting Illini served under David Culley as the Texans AHC and defensive coordinator during the 2021 NFL season. Smith would then be elevated to the head coaching position after Culley was controversially fired.”
LA Rams are hiring Iowa State offensive coordinator Nate Scheelhaase as their Pass Game Specialist. The 33-year-old Scheelhaase, who played QB at Illinois, generated interest from NFL teams in recent years, and he now makes the move to the NFL to work under Sean McVay.

Who is Nate Scheelhaase and what must Rams fans know about this future NFL HC (ramblinfan)
“But Ragone was not the only impressive coaching hire by the team in 2024. Let’s talk about the wunderkind, Nate Scheelhaase. For openers, he was hired in 2024 to assume the role previously held by offensive pass game specialist, Jake Peetz. If you recall, Peetz signed on with the Seattle Seahawks in 2024 to become their passing game coordinator.
Enter Coach Scheelhaase, stage left.”

Senior Bowl QB Declares Whether He ‘Loves’ Idea Of Joining Los Angeles Rams, Sean McVay (lafbnetwork)
“The Los Angeles Rams are in a precarious place. Right now, Matthew Stafford is less than 100% positive he will continue playing football. With the Senior Bowl waiting for no one, the Rams most likely are adding a few more minutes to look at the quarterbacks, just in case.
As such, what a quarterback says might have an impact on whether the Rams choose them. Of course, even if Stafford sticks around, a later-round insurance pick used on a quarterback prospect might be in the cards. If that insurance pick becomes Tyler Shough, he’s made it clear how open he would be to join Sean McVay.”
